A small portable unit from a farm<br />
supply or home improvement store<br />
would burn wood or kerosene and<br />
could be moved as desired. A stone<br />
or brick fireplace or firepit would<br />
be more permanent. Burning wood<br />
would probably be cheaper than<br />
using kerosene. It’s hard to beat the<br />
crackle of a wood fire and the smell<br />
of wood smoke. Paying for the<br />
installation of gas hookups would<br />
raise pricing on a unit and prevent<br />
portability. Propane might be as<br />
economical as using wood. But<br />
trying to warm the great outdoors<br />
with electricity definitely would not<br />
be a brilliant choice.<br />
These heaters have many features<br />
to consider. Would you prefer a<br />
large fire unit that is itself a lovely<br />
landscape feature even when it’s<br />
not burning, such as a fireplace or<br />
a stone pizza or bread oven? How<br />
about a council ring with seating<br />
around the fire? Or maybe you’d<br />
prefer one of those fire-and-water<br />
combinations. Let your imagination<br />
loose here.<br />
Additionally, consider if you<br />
want a grate over the fire for grilling<br />
or a spit for roasting. Would you sit<br />
on folding chairs or patio seating<br />
or would you want custom-made<br />
wooden benches or a stone seating<br />
nook? Figuring out all the possibilities<br />
for your backyard fire enhancement<br />
should be fun for the whole<br />
family.<br />
