Largest running event in the Middle East as an instrument of peace through sports<br />
The Beirut Marathon is a muchanticipated<br />
yearly event that has been<br />
taking place since 2003.<br />
This event has been growing in<br />
popularity and participation, attracting<br />
more runners each year, and creating<br />
a culture of sportsmanship in the<br />
country.<br />
The Banque Du Liban Beirut Marathon<br />
(BDLBM) has brought people together<br />
from 85 countries and from all<br />
Lebanese regions and backgrounds<br />
to run in the streets of Beirut. Schools,<br />
universities, corporate teams, and<br />
NGOs/NPOs were active participants<br />
in this year’s edition.<br />
Elite Athletes<br />
The <strong>2015</strong> marathon is classified as a Silver Label Road<br />
Running event by the IAAF (International Association<br />
of Athletic Federations) for its excellence in organizational<br />
and logistical aspects.<br />
The BDLBM is one of 27 Silver Label races out of a total<br />
800 that take place every year around the world.<br />
Throughout the years, BMA has hosted international sports figures in<br />
Lebanon, putting the country on the World’s sports map.<br />
In <strong>2015</strong>, BMA invited:<br />
• 24 elite athletes and their coaches<br />
• 8 special needs athletes<br />
15 small to medium events were<br />
organized around the BDL Beirut<br />
Marathon, stretching from August to<br />
November, strategically designed to<br />
ensure the success of the Marathon.<br />
