THE VOLUNTEER ENGINE Volunteers are the heroes and the fuel of the BMA engine. In 2015, BMA worked with over 6,000 volunteers from all walks of life, and age groups. Volunteers help out with all aspects of BMA race organization. Volunteering with BMA offers a unique opportunity to learn about the organization of a complex event while doing community service and acquiring new skills. The age group of our volunteers is between 14 to 30 years and with a special focus on the ages of 18 to 21. BMA also empowers young adults by offering them Internship opportunities. In 2015, 11 students interned in different departments, with one intern joining the BMA core team in December. Little did I know that I would stay this long. Having a background in architecture, I thought this would be it. And then I was hooked: From one project to another with a vast array of tasks and responsibilities. 10 years later, here I am, the Head of the Outreach and Hospitality department!!! What a journey!!! Volunteering at BMA races helped me to gain experience in the events organization field, to mix with professionals, and get a real taste of responsibility that will definitely help me in my future endeavors. Anthony Issa - BMA Volunteer Best Volunteer of the Year Best Intern of the Year Based on the volunteer that took on a full project and delivered perfectly Sarah Abdallah: VIP Buses project manager Sarah has a bachelor in business from USJ and a master's degree in marketing from LAU. Sarah, 24 years old, first volunteered in 2013 with the objective to fill community hours for her civic engagement class. She kept volunteering after her first experience and was a volunteer project manager during the marathon, leading 8 other volunteers and handling all VIP transportation bus schedules, a complicated and very punctual task. Based on the HODs evaluation Albert Cheaib: Race Director Assistant In 2015, Albert Cheaib, achieved his master's degree from Escuela Real Madrid in Sports Management. Albert came in as an intern in the race department with the goal of enriching his knowledge in the field he has been studying. At the end of his internship, Albert’s intelligence and dedication made him receive the award of BEST INTERN and then an opportunity for a full time job in the race department. Today Albert is a fully active employee in the association. Lebanese Red Cross Scouts The Lebanese Red Cross (LRC) attaches great importance to the Youth's efforts and activities as the youth constitute an important group of volunteers who provide care to those most in need. By participating in volunteering activities such as the Beirut Marathon, LRC enhance their volunteers’ capacities and abilities to better fulfill tasks assigned to them under the slogan "For humankind". On BDLBM race day, 400 youth volunteers were spread on the course, start line and finish line to deal with any emergency and medical relief. In 2015, 221 scout members assisted in controlling the closure of the roads leading to race courses in order to protect the runners from any vehicle entering those courses.
