Curves Ahead

Are you ready for the Time Trial and
Autocross season? I know I am! By
the time you read this, we will have
already had our first Time Trial and Autocross
weekend at Mineral Wells. I’m hearing that
these driving events are expected to fill quickly
this year, so you'd better register soon if you
would like to further sharpen your handling and
course navigation skills.
We are also quickly approaching our next Drivers Education
event to be held at Texas Motor Speedway during our annual
Club Race in May. This particular DE is open to all blue-solo
and above drivers who have participated in previous DEs. For
more information about this event, see page 13 of this issue. The
application to participate in the DE can be found on page 23.

at your limit for an entire weekend. You can find more information
about the June DE in the ad below and on the Maverick Region
website www.pca.org/mav . Follow the
"Drivers Education" link for information, dates, and enrollment
application forms. The application deadline for the June DE will
be in *early* May. I need to stress how important it will be to get
your application postmarked on the deadline date to get into this
event, it fills up VERY quickly.
Lastly, I want to thank all who helped write articles, build
event ad graphics, and help gather articles and pictures. Thanks
to you, this issue is packed full of great reading!
The Maverick Region’s next instructional event will be the
June MotorSport Ranch Drivers Education. Unlike the Club Race
DE, the June DE is open to ALL members who would like the
opportunity to "learn the line" at MotorSport Ranch’s 1.7 mile,
11-turn road course. If you have never been on the track at MSR,
you should seize this opportunity to explore your car’s handling
limits. Instructors will be available for all students. I encourage
you to get out there and give it a try. You will have more fun than

The Board Meeting was held on Tuesday, March 4,
2003 at the home of Lisa and Mark Steele and, of
course, Cindy.
Attendees: Lisa and Mark Steele, Michael
Wingfield, Keith Olcha, Joel Nannis, Wendy and
Jasmine Shoffit, Cody Sears, Noby Takahashi, Lanean
Hughes, Mimi Spreen, Dennis Chamberlain, Bob
Knight and Dee Lersch.
The meeting started at 7:04 pm with Round the Room.
Lanean Hughes - DE applications went out this week. Seven Club
Racers from Kansas will be at the event.
Michael Wingfield - The DE went well. There were 148 in attendance,
including instructors. Water on the track caused problems for
some. We're now ramping up for the next DE.
Joel Nannis - Membership is up, oh and by the way, Happy Birthday
to Joel on Thursday!!
Noby Takahashi - Insurance paperwork ok for upcoming events.
Needs to contact Ted Glover to get specifics on upcoming tours to
complete insurance.
Wendy Shoffit - Intro to Autocross and Ladies Autocross School went
well, the weekend netted a profit. About 34 students for the March 8th
Autocross and about 1/3 to 1/2 of the students carried over from the
previous school. Applications for June DE will be on line next week.
Slipstream will be late this month. We all need to follow through with our
commitments to write articles, etc in a timely manner to help Matt Platts.
Keith Olcha - The next three Board meetings, April, May and June
will be held at Keith's house to help prevent any confusion.
Cody Sears - The Intro to AX and the Ladies AX practice sections
used the same distances between cones in the slalom, same radius in the
skid pad, etc. as were used in the actual courses the students drove. The
consistency helped the students quite a bit as they could used what they
learned from the individual sections.
Dennis Chamberlain - The Happy Hour at Sherlocks had about 43
people and 5 of those were new members. Dennis discussed the Mentor
program and agreed to start a temporary program of pairing new
members with old members for several events and see how it works.
Dee Lersch - Contest to come up with new slogan on T-shirts netted
5 suggestions and we chose a winner. It will be announced with the
artwork shortly. The Goody Store sold it's last grill badges and in order to
get new ones made without the Porsche emblem, it would have to be
re-tooled which raises the cost quite a bit. Lee agreed to email Bob Miller,
at National regarding this issue and report back to the Board.
Bob Knight - He has received the money from the DE. We made
money at the Dinner Social. The Maverick Region tax return has been
completed and signed by Keith, so Bob will mail it off.
Motion to adjourn was made at 8:15 and seconded. Motion
approved. The next meeting will be at Keith Olcha’s house on Tuesday,
April 8th. Food will be served at 6:30, the Board Meeting will start at 7:00.
