Founders Day 2003 “A Gala of Giving Affair” By Lanean Hughes On Saturday November 8, 2003, 130+ Mavericks, and guests arrived at the Speedway Club for their annual Awards banquet and more. From a fabulous setting above the TMS track, to sequins, and a little extra make-up, it was a special gathering of new members, old members and making new memories!! This year’s Silent Auction was designated for the purpose of getting enough funds to purchase a washer/dryer for the Hope Shelter. Candy Miller, a club member, and owner of White House Furniture in Weatherford made it possible for us to purchase a ...bidding on everything from chocolate 911’s... washer/dryer at a significant savings, and it will be delivered before Thanksgiving. We far exceeded the goal that was set for this. Due to the outstanding support of our members, and the many donors of our great silent auction items, we made approximately $2,900! What an awesome way for Maverick to end their year’s activities, bidding on everything from Chocolate 911’s to Car Cleaning kits!! One of our special guests was Lisa Huffaker, the Hope Shelter administrator and her husband, Mitchell. We certainly appreciated their presence, and the opportunity for members to meet and visit with her. She expressed her thanks and support of our club throughout the past 10 years. I cannot express the thanks (seems like such a small word) to YOU the members and YOU the donors/sponsors/supporters for helping us to continue the “Passion for Hope” and help them to continue their efforts in assisting those clients who come to them for a “safe haven.” Special recognition to Mimi Spreen for assisting w/the planning, and making the yummy desserts and to Dave and Jean Frick for assisting me w/silent auction donations. You were greatly appreciated!! You will see many award winner’s photographs on these pages, but there were also several folks who won award but were not in attendance. Be sure to contact Cody Sears if one of those people is you. Don’t forget to bring your special toy or stuffed animal to the Holiday Party. We will be making a trip to the shelter on December 14.
