Maverick Minutes by Jan MayoMarch 7 board meeting found the food ready early so everyone had eaten and was ready to start the meeting 5 minutes early. Rocky started off saying he resented my implication that he was shirking his duty in missing the Feb board meeting because he was on a four week ski trip in Colorado. He was only gone three and a half weeks. I apologized and said I only commented such because my feelings were hurt at the entire board not being invited to join the ski trip. We were both grinning. We quickly moved on to Lanean Hughes' report on the status of the new home for Hope, Inc. There will be a weekend where they will need volunteer help to install insulation. Lanean will be calling. Once that is done there will be another weekend where the interior paint job will need some volunteers and again you will see her posts to the Mav Yahoo list. Please watch as they are looking forward to a July 1 move in date. Lanean continued with information on Porscheplatz, May 11-13, during the Lone Star Grand Prix -American LeMans race at Reliant Park in Houston. There will be a Porsche parking corral, scheduled appearances by Porsche drivers, and a PCA tent with membership info. and a raffle for someone to win a spot as a pit crew member. She needs around 30 people to volunteer to work a time spot in the hospitality tent. Lanean had one more thing to say on behalf of Bryan Henderson, Zone 5 Representative. Part of the Portland Parade competition will be a Zone Challenge, in which Bryan wants some Mavericks to participate. Wendy Shoffit's report on the two Autocross School weekends started as a weather report. The first weekend was freezing rain, sleet and snow and the second weekend was sunny and mid 70's. Both weekends' events were held successfully in spite of the weather. There were 92 total students and with *most* of the expenses accounted for expects to see ~$200 in surplus. She suggests we consider raising the price as it is only $5 more than the regular event price and we supply a t-shirt for the two day entrants, lunches, PLUS a full day of personalized instruction. Wendy has talked with Lisa Steele about taking over the school part of Wendy's many Maverick jobs and Lisa is considering it. (Hey Lisa, they're just like a bunch of really tall second graders! You can handle it.) Wendy moved on with her report on Slipstream. The March issue was delivered to Tri-Win on Feb 28. By the 7th no one had received their issue yet. We are probably going to return to using the Fort Worth bulk mail delivery instead of the Dallas distribution site as we never had these delays before moving to Dallas. There will be a $35 delivery charge from Tri-Win but if it eliminates the delays it will be worth it. Wendy had her normal "needs" list of articles yet to be received and also discussed Kevin Hardison's suggestion that the next issue have a color cover. She discussed the additional cost, there was a motion and a second and the board agreed to the additional cost. Jan Mayo gave some additional information on the cost and quality issue of buying new loaner helmets for the Truckster and requested $600 +/- tax for the purchase from advertiser Bobby Archer. The request was moved, seconded and passed. Teri Davis said that everyone that showed up for the rally school had a good time in spite of the heavy rain. Reservations for her next rally are already coming in. Last month Teri had reported that there would be a Porsche Driving Experience at Portland Parade but now it will not be happening after all. Charlie Davis got a resounding response to his request for recognition for Kevin Hardison and the autocross committee’s work on the Autocross Schools. The room was filled with giant hurrahs and a final huge Rah Rah.... even though Kevin wasn't there to hear it. He did show up a bit later and we did a repeat performance. Charlie continued with the list of things he has accomplished on the Truckster reporting that it does run better now. He has ~25 people that have classified their cars and has found a small glitch in the system. It has been or will be fixed. Joel Nannis said the National Membership web site has been down and he's not sure when he will get updated information. Many of you have seen Joel driving Jellybean, the 1975 911 that belonged to Bob Ande. After Bob's death Joel bought the 911 and has been helping Bob's sister Judy with many of Bob's things including what to do with the Econoline van. With Judy's blessings the van will be donated to the Hope Shelter. The Ed and Tracey Gross duo have started working on May at Mayo's for May 20. They are looking into group tickets (not box) for a Ranger game in June and maybe a Murder Mystery dinner evening in July when it's too hot to be outside. The Goodie Store is going to ask for payment prior to making special orders. Brian Petri said Autocross #1 at TMS would be the weekend before the NASCAR race and he suspects there might be some RV traffic that we'll have to deal with. Lanean assures him that her source at TMS says RV's will not be allowed to enter the track till Sunday evening. DE Registrar Michael Wingfield said the February DE at MSR had 220 entrants and 212 actually showed up even with the rain. The April event has 60 registrants so far. Marie Wingfield started some discussion on how anyone knows when there is an open Chair spot and suggests that we advertise when there are openings. She also was concerned that the titles were not very descriptive on the Board, Officers and Chairs page of Slipstream. DE Chair Bill Dawson was very pleased with the February DE turn out and the way the event was run even with the deluge of rain. He was pleased that a number of people used the rain as a learning instrument. Albert Sansores asked if the long MSR track will be run clockwise. Bill thought probably not as, at this time, there were some safety concerns with that direction. Albert wanted to know if we'd run the short course any more and again Bill responded that we would only if we do not fill registration. Our cost will still be less than other venues. Treasurer Jeff Atkins is on top of the tax status with Bob Knight but we will need to publish a 2005 P & L in Slipstream. He thinks he has budgets from everyone. Jeff still has some reservations on the notification and access processes with PayPal but these are being addressed. We have now gone around the table and are back to Rocky where he's still nursing a slight snow-sun burn on his nose. He has the paperwork for the PCA National awards and would like anyone to speak up with nominations. Kevin Hardison appears with his normal timeliness and we repeated the applause !! Applause!!! for his work on the Autocross schools. Lanean takes the floor again thinking it would be nice if folks sent a Thank You note to the businesses that sponsor events. Wendy reiterated to remember our sponsors not only with Thank You's when you visit them or see them at an event, but to also support them with purchases. No more repeats so we are done. 8
