The Inside Track
by Rocky Johnson, the Maverick Region President
It's been fun! Have there been some challenges -- yes,
but overall a lot more positives than negatives. The
past two years as president have flown by. I was
lucky, the club was in great shape when I came to office
and it's in great shape today. The newly elected and
reelected officers - James Shoffit, president, Mark
Gluck, vice-president, Charlie Davis, secretary and Bob
Kuykendall, treasurer, bring a wealth of personal,
professional and Maverick experience to the board. I'm confident the
Maverick region will continue to be a leader in PCA, both regionally
and nationally.
As most of you who attend any of our events know, they tend to be
well organized, first class and fun, no matter whether social or driving
oriented. This is because we are blessed with absolutely great people that
serve as the real driving force, many times, behind the scenes. If I tried to
say thank you, in writing, to everyone that has contributed to running the
club and our events over the past two years, it would take a special edition
of Slipstream. In addition to all the folks that have served as chairs,
committee heads and workers, there have been others that have served as
informal sounding boards. Thanks to you, as well.
One thing is for sure, as I enjoy our events in the future, I will do so
with a much greater appreciation for all the hard work required to make
things look so easy. When the occasional, small hiccup does occur, it's
important to remember that none of the volunteers are purposely trying to
inconvenience or upset you.
It's funny, one of the most difficult tasks for me, as president, has
been writing this monthly article. It has been a good news/bad news
proposition. The good news is that nobody tells you what to write about -
- the bad news is that nobody tells you what to write about! Fortunately, my
article is in the front of the magazine. That way, if I put you to sleep, you've
got the great stuff in the rest of the magazine with which to recover.
As I said at the start, it has been fun. If you have been sitting on the
sidelines, you ought to jump in and try to get more active in helping run
things. You might find out you really enjoy it.
