“Much<br />

The title would seem to have some<br />

applicability to the Mavericks of late. You<br />

remember Willy, he was an early (very early)<br />

Maverick member and drove a 1580, one-horse<br />

cabriolet. Unfortunately, it was a British model,<br />

not one of the more highly regarded German<br />

marques, but I digress. Those of you who have been paying<br />

attention no doubt recall that last year it was reported, both here<br />

and in the minutes of the board meeting, that the Executive<br />

Committee planned to review the current bylaws and offer some<br />

minor revisions for consideration. The target was to vote on the<br />

suggested revisions at Founders Day. A small, but vocal, contingent<br />

felt proper parliamentary protocol had not been followed, so the<br />

election was postponed. This same small group also offered up<br />

some proposed revisions of their own. At this point, another<br />

attempt was made to schedule an election. Shortly thereafter, events<br />

evolved into yet another of Shakespeare’s plays, “The Comedy<br />

Of Errors.”<br />

It is probably appropriate to say that I take this lighthearted<br />

note only because I feel the vast majority of the members are not<br />

overly concerned with dotting the I's and crossing the T's in<br />

the bylaws. Especially if their favorite events or events continue<br />

to run in a timely and smooth fashion, which is most certainly<br />

the case. Additionally, I don't believe that any of the proposed<br />

amendments will have any earthshaking impact on the<br />

day-to-day workings of the organization.<br />

This doesn't mean I don't believe the amendments are<br />

important, I do! I also don't mean to imply that people shouldn't<br />

voice their opinions, they most certainly should. This article is just<br />

a way to let folks know that the original intent to offer some proposed<br />

revisions isn't dead, it has just become more complicated.<br />

In fact, every time one issue appears solved, another springs up.<br />

On line voting comes to mind. At the moment, we are planning<br />

to hold the vote at the April DE on Saturday, the 8th. Obviously,<br />

based on prior results, this is subject to revision. Who knows, it<br />

may be next Founders Day before we actually get to vote! At rate,<br />

I'm confident that in the end, results will call to mind yet<br />

another of Willy's plays, “All Well That Ends Well.”<br />

Maverick Minutes<br />

to join Rocky.<br />

VicePres, Mark Gluck, opened the meeting a<br />

bit before 7-ish for Pres Rocky Johnson. Rocky had<br />

told us that he would be absent for the February<br />

Board Meeting but he failed to explain that it would<br />

be because he was skiing in Colorado for an entire<br />

month. Since nearly everyone else on the board<br />

was present I wasn't alone in missing the invitation<br />

Going around the room Tom Snodgrass reported on the<br />

schools. The Ladies/Teen autocross school has at this point 14<br />

ladies and 1 teen signed up. AX 101 has 32, AX102 has 36 and<br />

TT103 has 17 (numbers provided by Wendy). 40% are Porsches<br />

and 60% are non-Mavericks or Maverick members driving another<br />

car. He has enough volunteers for instructors and workers so is<br />

feeling well prepared. Attendees will be informed of their acceptance<br />

during the following week. For the Club Race, they are working<br />

on the flyer for advertisement and Tom reports that John<br />

Sandusky is working on the application. Tom has a Club Race<br />

Committee meeting scheduled for <strong>March</strong>. Bob Benson says they<br />

need more workers.<br />

Lanean Hughes said there would be a Hope Shelter Board<br />

meeting the following evening. She attended the PCA National<br />

Board meeting last weekend and said the 2008 Parade would be in<br />

Charlotte, NC. The Membership website is being worked on and<br />

she says Maverick Region needs to get back in the habit of<br />

submitting nominations for the National awards. There will be a<br />

PCA tent at the IMSA race that will be covered by Maverick and<br />

Lone Star members. Information concerning this will come from<br />

Bryan Henderson our <strong>2006</strong> Zone Rep. Lanean is also working on<br />

getting Dunlop Tires to sponsor something for Zone 5.<br />

Teri Davis said the Rally School had a fantastic turn out of 40<br />

people. She has trophies for the remainder of the Rally Program,<br />

the next being <strong>March</strong> 25. Teri reported that the Portland Parade is<br />

planning a Porsche Driving Experience. It will be in half day<br />

increments over 3 days.<br />

Charlie Davis has been working on the Truxter carburetors and<br />

is putting off working on the new box for holding, charging and<br />

transporting the radios till the carbs are done. The fire extinguishers<br />

are at Mayo Performance being inspected by William Fletcher.<br />

William will do the recharging and repairing of ten extinguishers for<br />

$180 - $200. There are two Halons that he can recharge for $394<br />

each. We're going to hold off on these. The rules committee is<br />

prepared to help people with understanding the new classifications<br />

and will be present at the Autocross School Pre-Tech events which<br />

will be held at Autoscope and Mayo Performance.<br />

Bryan Bell participated in Park Place’s Cayman experience and<br />

reported that it was a grand event. Bob Benson interjected that the<br />

second weekend was equally as good other than the rain made the<br />

tire usage a little less dramatic.<br />

Ed Gross is still working on getting the Goodie Store up on the<br />

Maverick Website. He and Tracey were pleased with the turnout at<br />

the New Member Party in January with nearly 100 guests but were<br />

concerned that only 8 were actually New Members. As this is not<br />

really the results this party is supposed to generate, the topic will be<br />

re-addressed before next year’s party. There was some discussion<br />

about contacting new members and email addresses and what<br />

information is currently available to Joel (membership chair) vs<br />

what he has actually been able to access.<br />

As this discussion died down Tracey picked up reporting that<br />

the Wine Tasting evening was a great success and everyone had a<br />

fabulous time. She utilized the PayPal system created by Chris<br />

Alvarado of Hill Country (THANK YOU, CHRIS!) as the wine<br />

tasting was a pay in advance evening. Tracey is looking down the<br />

road for future events such as possible a Cowboy and/or Ranger<br />

game. She's full of great ideas, so stay tuned.<br />

Michael Wingfield has 207 drivers registered for the Feb 25/26<br />

long track DE at MotorSport Ranch with a waiting list for Green.<br />

The April DE registration opens the day before, Feb 24.<br />

Maverick membership is at 1168 per Joel Nannis. He has a 100<br />

page membership list and has updated his records. He gets a hard<br />

copy every 6 months.<br />

Bob Benson has been participating in an on-line discussion on<br />

setting up an on-line voting system. There are a variety of systems<br />

available and the committee is making progress.<br />

Bill Dawson thanks Michael for his work on the on-line<br />

registration. The February long track event looks like it will be<br />

successful even with the added expenses for additional equipment.<br />

Jack Farr is continuing to promise the track will be ready for our<br />

use. Bill along with a team of 5 or 6 others worked with Jack on the<br />

placement of the new corner stations and everyone feels the<br />

locations will be good for both directions around the track. Two<br />

existing corner stations will be moved for better driver sight and<br />

worker safety.<br />

Dennis Chamberlain is working on the Club Race <strong>2006</strong> flyer. The<br />

January Happy Hour at Salt Grass had 38 people present. February<br />

will be at Uncle Julios and he's working on some ideas for <strong>March</strong>.<br />

Joe McGlohen says "We're Safe."<br />

Treasure Jeff Atkins says the checkbook is in good shape. The<br />

PayPal system is going well but he has some questions concerning<br />

it's usage by various different events.<br />

Secretary Jan continues to work with Bobby Archer for the<br />

Truxter loaner helmets but has been given a 6 month reprieve from<br />

Safetyman Joe as the 2005's are still not available.<br />

Wendy is concerned on the delivery time of <strong>Slipstream</strong>. The<br />

delays are within the Dallas Post Office and there doesn't seem to<br />

be anything we can do about that. The board will discuss some<br />

other options even to going back to doing the labels and delivering<br />

the sorted/documented bags to the delivery center ourselves again.<br />

Back to the beginning with Mark Gluck reporting that all of<br />

the February events are insured and he has submitted the<br />

paperwork for <strong>March</strong>. Discussion on the Bylaws came up again<br />

along with the definition of Quorum and the continuing debate on<br />

how we are to get together enough members to satisfy the rules of<br />

a quorum.<br />

The meeting was adjourned and everyone split into little<br />

mini-subgrouplets for continued chatter.<br />

From The Driver’s Seat<br />

This past weekend was a very interesting one.<br />

While you won’t see full coverage of the<br />

autocross schools until next month, I have to<br />

take a little time and space to mention them. We held<br />

the Ladies & Teen and the Autocross 101 school on<br />

the coldest, iciest, nastiest weekend I can remember.<br />

Do you recall the weekend not so long ago (by the<br />

time you read this) where the weather guys and gals told you to stay<br />

home unless you had to get out? Well, I guess we felt like we had to<br />

get out because we did. We were joined by the majority of the<br />

students who signed up, as well. I can’t tell you how weird it felt<br />

standing on an autocross course during a snowfall. Everyone had a<br />

great time, though, which made it all worthwhile. Thanks go to all<br />

the instructors, workers, and students who braved the weather to<br />

make this event happen!<br />

To follow up last month’s topic of <strong>Slipstream</strong>’s mailing delays,<br />

we’re still looking into all of our options. We have discovered,<br />

though, that the primary delay has been because of the Dallas Post<br />

Office. We’re seriously considering switching back to Fort Worth. Of<br />

course, I don’t want this starting up the old fight about which city is<br />

better... everyone knows that Irving is best! *wink*<br />

Anyway, there are so many events coming up in the next few<br />

months I’m sure there’s going to be something that interests you. I<br />

hope to see you at an event soon! Enjoy the view... you know!<br />

Mavericks Become Winos<br />

The social team of Tracey and Ed Gross took us to Tony’s Wine<br />

Warehouse for a Wine Tasting and Gourmet dinner February<br />

2nd. It was a sold out event with a wait list….way to go guys!<br />

Part I<br />

I’ve been to several wine tasting over the years – some too technical<br />

to enjoy the class, some were a joke – this one was fun, learned a few good<br />

tips about sparkling wine storage and wine glasses. The Wine Master kept<br />

it light, humorous and a quick pace introducing us to approximately 20<br />

wines…hey, after 10 tiny tastings I lost count…starting with a sparkling<br />

Spanish wine, then to the whites, ending with the reds. While sampling<br />

lovers of chocolate… drumroll…two of his creations (several plates) are<br />

placed on the table for us to eat….bread pudding drizzled with<br />

chocolate…to die for…and a chocolate mousse creation that was<br />

awesome. Side note: The day after the tasting I received my copy of Sur<br />

La Table Spring Culinary Class Preview and guess who is featured as a<br />

Celebrity Touring Chef for one of their classes….Roland Mesnier.<br />

Thanks again Tracey and Ed for a very fun evening…and did I hear<br />

y’all say there would be a fall tasting?<br />

the wines, we had trays with ample amounts of paté, several cheeses, fruit<br />

and bread.You would think that would be enough but ooooh no….wine<br />

is poured, salad is served, wine is poured, slice of quiche is served, wine<br />

is poured, pasta with chicken is served, at this writing several days later<br />

I’m thinking we had a wine with a sampling of dessert but who’s keeping<br />

track at this point…..and 30 out of 45 of us indicated we would stay for<br />

the gourmet dinner when RSVPing..…<br />

Part II<br />

Most ended the evening after the tasting, some bought wines to<br />

stock their wine cellars – ask Claire Lewis how she got home since Bob<br />

bought a case of wine and they drove the P-car. The rest of us stayed for<br />

dinner including the Lewises. The group dwindled down to about 15<br />

who stayed to enjoy the restaurant menu. Even though I wasn’t in need<br />

of more food my curiosity was peaked… Tony’s set up a table for us<br />

among the boxes of wine…cozy. Orders taken, food served, I didn’t hear<br />

any negative comments, I can tell you my crab cake appetizer was very<br />

New Member Party<br />

Being a relatively new member myself, the New Member Party was<br />

a great opportunity to see some familiar, and some new faces, as well as<br />

actually converse!<br />

I have only attended the Time Trials and Autocrosses at the end of<br />

the 2005 season, so far. There is a lot of activity at these events and<br />

everyone is pretty busy. The only people I got to talk with at any length<br />

were my fellow corner workers for the day.<br />

I met several new members, including Grant and Betsy Imsande,<br />

Randy Csanadi, and Lee Bussard who each received a Maverick Region<br />

PCA logoed racing shirt as a gift from our Goodie Store folks, Ed and<br />

Tracey Gross.<br />

The hot topic of the meeting was the introduction of the new<br />

Autocross classifications and rules. There was a bit of excitement in the<br />

air! Looks like we will have a little more competition this season.<br />

Discussions and contemplations abounded throughout the club house.<br />

Meanwhile, Jasmine Shoffit exhibited her advancing marketing<br />

skills by creating and distributing fliers directing everyone to her Girl<br />

Scout Cookie sale out of the “closet”. (Gee, I wonder where she gets it?)<br />

Later, Jasmine made rounds, taking drink orders from anyone who was<br />

not sufficiently hydrated.<br />

It was a wonderful meeting and I personally am grateful for all those<br />

who turned out. The Maverick Region has a tremendously friendly<br />

membership! I’m certainly looking forward to other events!<br />

Rally School Report Card<br />

Perhaps washing the car brought the rain or maybe a gathering<br />

of rally cars did it, but wasn't it nice to see the roads<br />

washed clean? Still, we had 12 no-shows so the rain must<br />

have scared a few away. Oh, well, we still had 38 enthusiastic souls<br />

come to learn about the sport of road rally. Most of those people<br />

were able to stay all day and participate in the afternoon rally, which<br />

featured my favorite roller-coaster road and some spectacular<br />

skyline views. Three additional teams came just for the rally.<br />

We were pleased to have several members of the Metroplex<br />

Mini Club join us for the day. They did well and one pair from<br />

the Mini Club carried home a trophy. We presented trophies to<br />

the top three finishing teams.<br />

Updated Hope Shelter Report<br />

Are you ready for an “Insulation Party???” Well, we are needing<br />

some members to volunteer around <strong>March</strong> 15th to install the<br />

insulation. Then, around first part of May we will be ready for an<br />

“Interior Painting Party!!!!” If there is a Porsche family or a group of<br />

you who would like to sponsor a room, that is also needed. We have<br />

bedrooms, a childrens’ playroom, a living area, and several<br />

bathrooms. We plan to start the interior decorating in June.<br />

We would also love to hear from anyone with landscaping<br />

talents. The local Walmart is offering the plants and a few volunteers,<br />

but we might need some guidance on what to plant and where.<br />

This is something that we, as a Region, and Committee have<br />

been waiting to hear for a long time and if all goes well, staff and<br />

clients will move in JULY 1ST, <strong>2006</strong>!!<br />

The staff and board of Hope, along with the Hope committee,<br />

thank you all for continued support of this project and your<br />

patience. We will continue to hopefully support this organization,<br />

and their dedication to assisting victims of domestic violence.<br />

Next month we will have a “wish list” of items needed to<br />

complete the shelter. In the meantime, if you have interior paint,<br />

furniture, light fixtures, kitchen items, or whatever, please hang on to<br />

Removing Ugly Sunvisor Stickers<br />

This was heavily researched on the Boxster Board a number of<br />

years ago and this is what worked well for me:<br />

First - cover all dash and seat areas “in range” with thick drop<br />

cloths, to prevent staining from any chemicals you use (and<br />

spill/drip).<br />

Use denatured alcohol - RUBBING alcohol is not the same<br />

thing - go buy denatured alcohol. For the vanity mirror stickers first<br />

put the top down! Then cut a 3-4 layer thick 'pad' of paper towel to<br />

the exact shape of the sticker. Soak the pad in denatured alcohol, let<br />

excess drip out and place over the label - you don't want excess<br />

alcohol running into the mirror.<br />

Go away for 30 minutes. Don't peek, GO AWAY! The more you<br />

lift and “test” the longer it will take for the alcohol to do its work -<br />

which is soaking through the sticker and dissolving the glue underneath.<br />

At 30 minutes lift off the pad and peel off the sticker<br />

(no scrubbing).<br />

Use the pad or a fresh wad of paper towel with more alcohol to<br />

clean up any remaining glue. If there is a lot of glue you may need to<br />

soak it some more, and/or use a piece of soft plastic, like a credit<br />

card, to scrape some of the thicker glue. Clean off the alcohol with<br />

any good vinyl cleaner.<br />

For the underside stickers do the same thing, but you'll need<br />

something to hold the pad against the sticker, without squeezing all<br />

the alcohol out! Try cutting out a plastic food container lid to the<br />

right shape and use that as backing for the paper towel, and hold<br />

gently with elastic bands. It will help if you flip the visor against the<br />

windscreen so gravity works for you rather than against.<br />

Wait the 30 minutes, same deal. For some reason on this side it<br />

usually leaves a very light 'ghost' image that I have not found a way<br />

to remove. I think the original glue actually changes the texture of<br />

the vinyl slightly.<br />

Inside the <strong>2006</strong> AX/TT Rules<br />

When James Shoffit and I approached Rocky last fall and suggested<br />

forming an Autocross Rules Committee, it had been 5<br />

years since anybody had looked at the Rules. Well, there was a<br />

copy on the web site, but nobody seemed to read them or pay much<br />

attention to them anymore.<br />

Rocky approved our idea of a Rules Committee consisting of the AX<br />

Chair, the TT Chair, the Timing guy, the Truxster Driver, and Lisa Steele.<br />

Our initial reason for forming this committee was to devise a<br />

different way to select the Top Drivers. The old process had a problem:<br />

Many classes only had one driver and without competition, it was<br />

impossible to be selected as one of the Top Drivers!<br />

At our first meeting, we quickly found consensus that part of the<br />

problem was too many classes. We additionally decided to “invent” a new<br />

algorithm that indexed drivers within class boundaries. Indexing is<br />

controversial, because it’s difficult to do well. There are two primary<br />

ways: 1) Collect historical event results and compile this into figures-ofmerit<br />

for car models, and 2) Analyze each car technically and compute a<br />

figure-of-merit for each model. The first approach is common (the<br />

SCCA uses it, for example to generate their PAX index), but it is plagued<br />

with sensitivities to both venue and driver. If you can collect lots of data<br />

across many venues and drivers, this is acceptable. Unfortunately, with<br />

only three venues and a total of about 100 AX drivers, we could do<br />

neither. So we pursued the second option. We called the index the<br />

“Predicted Performance Factor” or PPF for shorthand.<br />

Bumping is an old, some say discredited technique where, as a car<br />

collects modification points and passes a threshold value, it “bumps” up<br />

a class. An advantage of the PPF approach is that it somewhat validates<br />

bumping by solving one problem that discredited it: Classes organized in<br />

historical order rather than ascending performance. The other objection<br />

to bumping is that it requires dissimilar models to compete. We<br />

wondered, for example, is it fair for a Cayenne to compete with a 356? In<br />

fact, we virtually never see either one at an AX or TT, but if we did, they<br />

might have to compete.<br />

Our goal being good competition, we decided to have only 10<br />

classes. We realized that with only 10 classes we would have to mix<br />

models more than in the past. As we delved further, it became obvious<br />

that most of the reasonably stock cars should fall into the bottom 7<br />

classes; the upper 3 should be reserved for highly modified cars. Then we<br />

realized that a modified 356 would probably not get beyond class 3 or 4!<br />

Would a stock class 4 entrant (say a 2.7L 944) be upset if a race prepped<br />

356 joined the class? The simple answer was,“Not if he beats the 356 race<br />

car!” We asked several drivers. They all agreed with the unanimous<br />

opinion of the Rules Committee; that competition was an important<br />

part of their AX and TT enjoyment.<br />

One of the big issues with the PPF approach is that it requires lots<br />

of data. Some of the data we needed was in the Owners Manuals, Parade<br />

Competition Regulations, Club Race Rules, Tech Spec Books and Shop<br />

Manuals. What we didn’t find was often on a web site (some of that data<br />

is questionable). We sent letters to the PCA Technical Committee for a<br />

few gems. After about 3 months of work, we still have a few “holes” in the<br />

data. Today, there are 102 different models in the list. We continue to<br />

gather data and correct typos.<br />

As we started piecing the PPF algorithm together, we created an<br />

Excel spreadsheet. It’s quite complex, but only the Rules Committee<br />

needs to delve into the “guts”. We did this work to make it easy to<br />

classify a car. All an owner has to do is to answer a few car questions and<br />

the classification is automatic. For a stock car you need to describe the<br />

model and year (and for some cars, select which engine you have). If your<br />

car is modified you must provide data about some of the modifications.<br />

For example, if your car is lower than stock, you must supply the height<br />

of the car at the top of the roof. If you can’t figure out how to measure it,<br />

we’ll help (it’s actually quite simple). If you still can’t (or won’t) make the<br />

measurement, we’ll do it for you. Our PPF scheme requires the actual<br />

condition of the car to be known. Note that I didn’t say “if you modified<br />

it” or “if you lowered your car”! If you bought it in a modified condition,<br />

you have to figure out what the previous owner(s) did. Sorry…<br />

We think most owners will have to use at least part of the<br />

“modified” section, as most people have tires that aren’t stock.<br />

James is converting the Excel spreadsheet to a web-based<br />

application. It’s actually fun.You can play “what if”and see the effects…it<br />

shows the Mod Points, the PPF, the Class, and where the car sits within<br />

the class. The AX/TT Class Calculator will be used in conjunction with<br />

on-line AX/TT Registration. In order to compete, you must be classified.<br />

James will keep a class database for all competitors. You must classify<br />

your car before your first AX/TT and if you change anything that would<br />

affect your class, you must reclassify your car. It’s an honor system…<br />

We are making some other changes. We will call the 10 classes<br />

“open” classes. By this, we mean that they are open to anyone; lady<br />

drivers can choose to compete with the men in these open classes. Some<br />

ladies have been quite vocal about being forced to compete only with<br />

other ladies! There is nothing to make ladies inferior to men at an AX. So,<br />

in <strong>2006</strong>, any lady can choose to compete with the guys. Those that don’t<br />

like this option, can compete in a single, indexed Ladies Class. That’s a<br />

change from the past, where we had 17 un-indexed Ladies Classes.<br />

Usually only a few ladies showed up and populated a couple of these<br />

classes. We will use the PPF to normalize the results within the new<br />

Ladies Class. We’ll also index the Developing Driver Class the same way.<br />

Drivers of either sex can chose to enter the Developing Driver Class.<br />

Over the past several years, we have changed our timing and process<br />

of running cars. A goal was to decrease the interval between cars. We now<br />

routinely start a car every 25 seconds. We can do it faster but it’s pretty<br />

hectic. This improvement was to enable us to give more runs. We<br />

normally give 8-10 runs. The downside of our success is that the first<br />

runs are essentially practice runs. This is counter to accepted AX norms,<br />

where 2-3 runs are considered “right”; it’s OK to practice at a Time Trial,<br />

but not at an Autocross.<br />

The <strong>2006</strong> Rules say that our AXes (not TTs) will offer between 3 and<br />

5 runs. At first, many think it’s silly or even evil to stop at 5, when we have<br />

time for 10. Consider this an opportunity! We might have 2 events on one<br />

day. In the AM, run AX#1. During lunch, change the course and in the<br />

PM, run AX #2. We still get 8-10 runs and don’t bastardize the event by<br />

allowing practice. Plus, it’s more flexible. Drivers will be able to choose AX<br />

#1, AX #2, or both. For events where we don’t double up, we’ll still have<br />

lots of extra runs (“fun runs”) for everyone after the 5 official runs. The<br />

only difference will be that there will be pressure to peak early, not late.<br />

We are still improving the spreadsheet, collecting missing data,<br />

testing strange combinations of modifications, etc. We will have “tech<br />

sessions” prior to the AX schools. Sessions are scheduled at 6-7:30pm on<br />

February 15th and <strong>March</strong> 1st at Autoscope in Plano and Mayo<br />

Performance in Euless. In addition to checking the students cars for<br />

safety issues, we will also have people there that can help owners classify<br />

cars. Please attend one of these sessions.<br />

Hopefully, by the time this article is published, James will have a well<br />

debugged classification application on our web site and we will have<br />

many, if not most, of the cars classified. We plan to advertise these “tech<br />

sessions” on the web site, hoping to get a big turnout. If you have trouble<br />

using the on-line classification application and we don’t get you classified<br />

prior to the first AX on <strong>March</strong> 26th at TMS, we will have workers there to<br />

do it. But, please…try to complete the new classification process before<br />

that event. If everyone procrastinates, we won’t do anything other than<br />

classify cars!<br />

We know there are a few cars that don’t easily fit into our scheme. For<br />

example, how to measure the height when the car doesn’t have a roof? Or<br />

how to estimate the spring rate with both coil and torsion springs? For the<br />

moment, we will handle these case-by-case, after careful measurements<br />

(where possible) and analysis.<br />

We realize the <strong>2006</strong> AX/TT Rules make major changes. If there<br />

are errors we will fix them; missing data, we will add it. If we find<br />

inequalities, we will remedy them via administrative changes. The Rules<br />

Committee hopes these new Rules permit better competition and<br />

cultivate more fun.<br />

Happy Hour at Saltgrass<br />

The Happy Hour of January 19 at Saltgrass Steakhouse in Irving<br />

had some stiff competition due to a scheduling conflict with<br />

an introduction party for the new Cayman, so Mike Lockas<br />

and I were surprised to have about 40 attendees. Saltgrass has always<br />

been a big hit due to its menu and location, and that proved to be the<br />

case on the 19th.<br />

New members included Randy Csanadi (2005 Boxster and<br />

1987 944 Turbo), Eric Buether (2005 911S), and Jim Clement and<br />

Lora Richards (1999 996), and several new members who had<br />

come to Champps in December followed it up by coming to the<br />

Saltgrass Steakhouse, too.<br />

For our <strong>March</strong> 16th happy hour we’re heading to Mondo’s, at<br />

Alpha Road and Noel, just north of the Galleria. Hope to see you<br />
