MR board meeting on June 5, 2007…In
attendance: James Shoffit, Bob Bianconi,
Mark Gluck, Dennis Chamberlin, Bob
Kuykendahl, Christy Dominick, Denny Payne,
Lisa Steele, Tracey Gross, Joe McGlohen, Bryan
Bell, Joel Nannis, Charlie Davis, Teri Davis, Jan
Mayo, & Wendy Shoffit.
James called the meeting to order at 7:01. It only lasted a few
minutes, though. He reported that there was an “incident”
involving two cars at the CR. We sent cards. The Steward's report
was good. Rick Randall was at the CR, sporting his “big head.”
PCA National has asked us to host the 2008 Winter Board
Meeting. The schedule is TBD.
Joe had a couple of problems, even before it was his time to have
problems. First, he noticed that the plate of cookies (being passed
around to sweeten up everyone's attitude) was not all cookies;
there were some brownies, too. This was unacceptable. Next, he
asked everyone to, “check yourself for standing water.” Turns out,
he was the only one with a pet mosquito and we left it that way.
Bob B. asked if we wanted a Fall Concours. We did. Decided that
Oct 13th was best date. There is an Charity AX at TMS on the
14th. May turn this into a Roundup weekend? Bob plans a school
for judges prior to this event.
Mark has insurance for all pending events.
Dennis said the last Happy Hour was good, but the service was
slow. The next Happy Hour will be at Champps…then Rio
Mambo in July.
Bob K. and Dennis discussed the 2006 audit. We authorized up to
$1000 for this. It will not be an “official” audit. They will consult
with Bob Knight, who has done several audits in the past.
Bob reported that the May Minutes had an error: the -$105,000
figure should be -$15,000.
He further reported that the profit from the CR will be lower
than last year, but the DE profit will be up. He doesn't know the
final numbers yet. We discussed the perception that in general, all
CR attendance was down lately. An exception is that the bigname
track events are doing well.
Christy has goodies, some of which is new stuff. She continues to
add the new items to the web site. She reported that Denny will
have a “banner ad” up soon on the front page. Christy proposed
that we have small raffles at all our events. She and Joel, working
with Keith Olcha, Sponsorship Chair, will organize that.
Denny made a name badge. Sent it around the table for comments.
He needs a web editing tool. Not Dreamweaver (too
expensive and complex), but will look into some other options.
He will get with James off-line and discuss this.
Lisa was speechless at what she said to Denny! Recovered quickly
after the laughter stopped. She apologized for “dropping the
ball” at the CR. We explained that there was no broken ball. She
has some new ads in the pipeline.
Tracey reported that we made money at Cinco de May at Mayo's.
No specific number was quoted. The next social event will be the
Father's Day Picnic. Registration cutoff is next Tuesday. Joel will
(again) handle the Wash & Shine/Concours. We need to make a
$1400 deposit for the Murder Mystery Dinner on Saturday,
August 4. We can get this deposit back if registration for the event
is low. We need 40 people to attend to be financially viable. The
board decided to approve this, since the last Murder Mystery
Dinner was well attended.
Tracey also reminded us that Founders Day will be at the Austin
Ranch. She is still looking for a Holiday Party site.
Joe stated that we have a policy of only having safe events.
Nobody argued with him.
Bryan agreed with Joe about safety. This was the first time this
has happened and bodes well for future Board Meetings.
Bryan noted that attendance is still down at events. The latest
double Time Trial weekend had 29 drivers on both days. That was
the bad news. The good news is that attendance by ladies is up
(about 27% of the total was ladies)! And many of the most experienced
ladies were not in attendance.
Bryan also mentioned that there will be a “bounce house” and
horseshoes at the Father's Day Picnic.
Joel asked for prizes for the Father's Day Concours.
Joel reported that locally, we have 1197 active members. National
says we have 1088 active and 828 affiliate for a total of 1914 members.
Charlie asked for a new (5th) member of the AX/TT Rules
Committee. Mike Lockas was nominated and approved.
Teri said she only has 3 people signed up for the Rally School and
the cutoff is one day away. She estimates that she needs a minimum
of 10 entrants to break even. We discussed this and agreed
that she would have to cancel the event if more people don't register.
Jan, as usual, asked for more articles. She asked for a key to the
storage unit. Joe said he has some. Charlie also needs a key.
Wendy told us that Jan will not be Slipstream Editor in 2008. We
need a new victim, er, volunteer. In order to help with the workload,
she wants to get a Mac laptop for the Assistant Editor. Also,
Kevin Hardison is stepping back a bit at Ussery's. A different
employee there will handle our newsletter. This may mean we
have to do more of the final layout? We discussed switching from
Quark to something like InDesign to make these jobs easier.
Wendy reported that we collected $336 for our charity at the
recent CR.
Teri said she needs to “retire” from being the Rally Chair. Her
national Parade duties are taking all her time.
James adjourned at 8:44 PM.
