Happy Hour at Abuelo’s
by Tom Minnella
We had a great turnout at Abuelo’s (ranked #1
For Mexican cuisine, chain type restaurants,
in the July issue of Consumer Report
magazine) in Lewisville for our June Happy Hour. The
margaritas hit the spot, as did the conversations from our
many diverse background
members. It seems like the Tex-
Mex cuisine is a favorite for
the majority of our Maverick
Region members. Abuelo’s
provided a private room and
we had a great service staff
waiting on us hand and foot.
The menu is quite diverse and
was extensive, to say the least.
There were several new
members in attendance
including a mother and son team from Odessa. She is a
senior high school teacher who just recently purchased her
first 911. During our conversation she stated “I haven’t had
it over 125 mph, as yet”. Looks like she’s going to be a great
club member, based on that quote.
While most of us were consuming margaritas and or
other similar refreshments, Linda Bambina passed out the
custom made 2009 Porsche Parade shirts. The mountain
design on the back was strikingly done with our traditional
slogan “It’s not just the cars, it’s the people” inscribed on the
front. All Parade
attendees will
wear their shirts
proudly to show
our participation
in the week
long activities at
Keystone, CO.
Many of the
Frank and Bobbie Briggs members present
were planning on
attending the 2009 Porsche Parade beginning with a 959
mile drive on Friday June 26th. It appears that at least five
to six couples will be leaving the Dallas area at noon on
the 26th and will meet for dinner that night in Amarillo at
the Big Texan steakhouse for refreshments and a 72oz steak
dinner. “Yeah, Right!”
Packing for this 10 day trip to CO and back can prove
to be quite a chore, when you are driving a 911, especially
from a woman’s point of view. Our next Maverick Region
Happy Hour is to be held at Mac’s Steaks and Seafood in
Colleyville on July 16th. Looking forward to another well
24
The whole crowd at Abuelo’s
attended Happy Hour and a lot of interesting conversation
based on the membership’s attendance at this year’s Parade.
The following month we return to Zea Wood Fire Grill
in Frisco on August 20. They have that great selection of
wood fired entries.
See you in August.
