The changes in these systems always come with other
interesting changes, too. Piston crown shape is ever changing
to facilitate and sometimes dictate injection/combustion
processes.
Getting the air to the combustion chambers via intake
manifolds, turbo chargers, intercoolers, air cleaners, intake
scoops, is constantly evolving and Porsche refers to this
as “Charge Air” or “Cylinder Filling.” Intake manifold
air columns that are constantly messaged with “manifold
expansion technology,” are variable turbine technology, etc.
It’s completely amazing what these engineers continue to
develop year after year.
