The mole % Al after milling was less than that was originally loaded except for<br />

samples 6 and 10. Sample 6 was the material that was stuck on the milling media. The<br />

stuck material was recovered by milling the remaining powder in the presence of ethanol<br />

and then filtering the metal-ethanol suspension and drying. Al was the more malleable<br />

component, therefore, during milling it coated the milling media and depleted in the bulk.<br />

The increase of Al content in sample 10 may be because of the non-homogeneity of the<br />

milled product, therefore, the sample taken for analysis may not have been representative<br />

of the whole.<br />

Weight percent of H absorbed by LaNi 5 +Al samples are listed in Table 3 and the<br />

H 2 uptake curves for the samples containing different amounts of Al are given in Figure<br />

23. The closeness of percent hydrogen for smaller percent Al was due to the poor<br />

reproducibility of this heterogeneous reaction.<br />
