Mystery shrouds deaths of Jubo League men

The mystery behind the death of
three Jubo League activists yet to
be solved, as law enforcers and
families of the deceased are providing
contrary statements over
reason of their deaths.
Law enforcers are saying that the
trio might have been killed by their
rivals while family members claiming
that they were shot dead by
RAB personnel, as members of the
elite force had picked up them the
day before they were found dead.
Meanwhile, the three Jubo
League activists were laid to rest
at Kanaikhali graveyard yesterday
afternoon. Before burial, Janaza of
the deceased was held at Kanaikhali
playground.

leaders and activists of the Jubo
League, Awami League and Chhatra
League took part in the Janaza.
MP Shimul said after hearing the
trio’s kidnapped, he contacted with
Dhaka, Rajshahi and Natore RAB offices
and police stations seeking trace
of them, but nobody confessed the
matter. After two days of the kidnap,
they were found dead in Dinajpur.
“I have already informed the
matter to the Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina and she assured me
that she will look into the matter.
“Sabbir and Shohel were active
members of Jubo League and Abdullah
was not accused even in any
single case, why he faced murder?”
He also vowed to go on tougher
movement, if the mystery behind
the death would not be solved immediately.
Surovi Akter, sister of Sabbir,
said her mother has been in bed
since she heard death news.
Shohel’s mother Sakhina Bewa
claimed that the RAB members
had killed her son.
The bullet-riddled bodies of the
three were found in Kolabaria area
under Ghoraghat upazila of Dinajpur
on Monday.

the youth front of the ruling party
Awami League recognised Redwan
Ahmed Sabbir, 25, son of Sona
Mia, Abdullah, 25, son of Lutfor
Rahman Lopu and Sohel, 27, son of
Kalo Miah, as their activists.
Officer-in-Charge of Ghoraghat
police station Nuruzzaman Chowdhury
said: “On information from
locals, a team of police went to the
spot in Kolabaria area in the morning
and recovered the bodies.”
Hamidul Alam, superintendent
of Dinajpur Police, then said miscreants
might have killed them
over previous enmity.
After recovery of the bodies,
families said some people identifying
themselves as RAB personnel
picked them up on Saturday. Since,
he remained missing. •

Husband hurls boiling
water on wife

Mother of a four-year old was
burnt, as her husband threw
boiling water on her following
a domestic fight at Latifpur
Maddhapara in Shajahanpur
upazila of Bogra yesterday.
The victim sustained injuries
on the chest but she was
taken to the hospital two days
later when she managed to
contact her father over the
phone.
Rita Khatun, 25, was admitted
to Shaheed Ziaur Rahaman
Medical College and
Hospital in Bogra by her father
Munser Ali on Monday.
That night, Munser filed a
case with Shajahanpur police
station against husband Abdul
Mamun Rony, mother-inlaw
Mamataz Begum, fatherin-law
Abdul Malek and two
other in-laws.
Police arrested Rony and
Mamataz, while the other accused
fled their house, according
to Shajahanpur police.
According to locals and
case statement, Rita of Jumainagar
village at Gurudaspur
upazila in Natore tied
knot with Rony five years ago
following a love affair.
Soon after the marriage,
Rony started torturing Rita for
dowry of Tk2.5 lakh.
As Rita’s family did not
meet his demand, the torture
on her only worsened.
The in-laws allege that
Rony is a drug addict.
On Saturday, Rita locked
into an altercation with her
husband, as he did not bring a
notebook for their son.
During the quarrel, Rony
and his family members started
beating her up and at one
stage, the husband threw
boiling water on her, which
burnt her chest.
The family did not take her
to any hospital for treatment.
On Monday afternoon, Rita
managed to call her father
in Natore over the phone for
help.
Abdullah Al Masud Chowdhury,
officer-in-charge of the
police station, said the arrestees
had been sent to jail.
Police were trying to arrest
the rest of the accused, added
the OC. •
5 of a family die after
eating pufferfish

At least five people of a family
reportedly died yesterday
at Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet
after eating puffer fish locally
known patka.
The deceased were Abdur
Rahim, 60, his two sons
Solaiman Hossain, 25, and
Lokman Hossain, 20, Rahin
Ahmed, 8, Monira Begum
Moni, 10, at Uttarmile village
of the upazila.
Joynul Abedin, chairman
of Jaintapur upazila parishad,
said Rahim bought some
fishes from a local bazar on
Monday and 10 members of
the families ate it at night and
they started vomiting around
3 pm yesterday.
Four of them died on the
way to Sylhet Osmani Medical
College Hospital while Moni
at the hospital, said officerin-charge
of Jaintapur police
station Shafiul Kabir. •
