Kids Tri (Triathlon Training for Youth)<br />

Whether your child is interested in starting a new sport or<br />

sharpening their skills as a competitive triathlete, Kids Tri is the<br />

program for them. Participants will have fun exploring all aspects<br />

of triathlon in this curriculum-based training program. Lessons on<br />

mental conditioning, team building, goal setting, and safety are<br />

integrated into comprehensive swimming, biking and run training.<br />

The program training will be in preparation for an indoor kids<br />

triathlon at the <strong>West</strong> <strong>Chester</strong> Area YMCA at the end of the<br />

session. Prerequisite: Participants must be a green band in<br />

swimming.<br />

Prerequisites: Must be able to comfortably swim 25 yards of<br />

freestyle using rotary breathing and 25 yards of backstroke.<br />

Strokes are refined with a strong emphasis on proper mechanics.<br />

Minnows build endurance in all strokes including freestyle,<br />

backstroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke and breaststroke.<br />

backstroke. Must be able to swim 50 yards of sidestroke,<br />

elementary backstroke and breaststroke. Must have a mastery of<br />

rotary breathing and have a stroke endurance to swim many<br />

lengths in a row. At this advanced level, students work on refining<br />

freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly, while increasing<br />

endurance. Diving and turns are a continued focus on this<br />

advanced level. Upon successful completion it's encouraged for<br />

swimmers to try Swim Team.<br />

Sharks continue to lean lifesaving strokes while being introduced<br />

to more advanced rescue skills and boating safety. Upon<br />

successful completion, it's encouraged for swimmers to try Swim<br />

Team.<br />
