spent in <strong>the</strong> place. These are all significant factors in determining, and comparing, people’s
experience <strong>of</strong> place. A detailed outline <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> table used to record results and <strong>the</strong> map is
shown by figures 4.5 and 4.6 on <strong>the</strong> following page, and full page images <strong>of</strong> each can be found
in appendix A and appendix C.
ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
As this form <strong>of</strong> research is passive and unobtrusive in nature, <strong>the</strong>re are limited opportunities
for problematic situations or ethical considerations. However, <strong>the</strong>re are some important
factors to be considered for this project:
• Research will be conducted during <strong>the</strong> event which will likely involve a significant
amount <strong>of</strong> people in a small space – consideration is needed to place oneself away
from main movement lines as to not interfere or obstruct <strong>the</strong> flow <strong>of</strong> people to
not cause potential injury or contact with <strong>the</strong> general public
• Anonymity will be enforced during <strong>the</strong> research – to protect <strong>the</strong> identity <strong>of</strong> people
and to not disclose personal information about particular individuals or groups
• To not follow or confrontationally observe <strong>the</strong> behaviours <strong>of</strong> people – this may
cause unease for <strong>the</strong> participants and also skew results
