DISPLAYS OF AFFECTIONS Similarly, ‘displays <strong>of</strong> affection’ (such as holding hands, kissing, hugging, having one’s arm around ano<strong>the</strong>r waist/shoulder) saw a peak during <strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> mapping when VIVID was active, as well as a period <strong>of</strong> higher levels following <strong>the</strong> conclusion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> exhibition as shown by figure 5.18. This is significant in relation to establishing an attachment to place; displays <strong>of</strong> affection generally lead to <strong>the</strong> retention <strong>of</strong> memories <strong>of</strong> a specific place and moment in time which can lead to a great relation to <strong>the</strong> place in which that interaction has occurred. This can also change <strong>the</strong> experience <strong>of</strong> place by creating a more social and hospitable atmosphere by changing <strong>the</strong> typical social behaviours in a space.
