Easy access to college education
Anyone with a car or a computer can go to college.
Jacksonville’s higher-education opportunities have grown in program offerings and
availability. From private universities to public universities, to colleges that focus
on liberal arts or on law, there are options for every type of education.
Edward Waters College was founded in 1866
and is the oldest private institution of
higher education in the state of Florida.
It was initially named “Brown Theology
Institute.” Edward Waters College awards
bachelor’s degrees in eight academic
major courses throughout arts, science
and business administration.
Flagler College is located in downtown St.
Augustine and has been ranked No. 2
in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best
Colleges guide for the best regional
colleges in the south. It also ranked No.
12 in the category for best value. It is a
four-year college that offers more than
30 majors and 40 minors that combine
classroom and real-world experiences.
Florida Coastal School of Law is fully accredited
by the American Bar Association and
opened in 1996. With a full-time staff that
represents more than 50 ABA-accredited
law schools from across the country, it
was the recipient of the 2010 ABA Smythe
Gambrell Professionalism Award. It is
one of only a few ABA-accredited laws
schools that offer a spring start date.
Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) is
growing its reputation as a dynamic and
influential higher education institution
on the First Coast. FSCJ’s 150-plus degree
and certificate options offer real, handson
training and comprehensive content
matter that provides students with the
industry required knowledge and skills
to excel in the workforce and prepare
for the career of their dreams. FSCJ has
multiple locations in Duval and Nassau
counties and offers traditional day
classes as well as evening and weekend
classes, hybrid classes and completely
online courses, in addition to several
accelerated learning programs.
The University of North Florida (UNF) offers majors
in five colleges ranging from business
to health, along with various minors in
each college. Not only does the school
offer undergraduate degrees, but also is
host to graduate degrees and doctorate
programs ranging from education to
physical therapy.
Jacksonville University (JU) was founded in 1934
as a junior college offering night classes
and became a four-year college in the
1950s. It boasts seven bachelor’s degree
