Selfie z badań terenowych podczas „Digital Dragons 2016”
w Krakowie / Selfie from the field research during the “Digital
Dragons 2016” in Kraków
Dla mnie praca naukowa to
pasja do badań w terenie
i zaspokajania ciekawości
„świata” zarządzania
strategicznego. Obecnie to
przedsiębiorstwa tworzące
gry komputerowe, mobilne,
konsolowe, przeglądarkowe
wzbudzają moją naukowo-
-poznawczą fascynację.
Okazuje się bowiem, iż
wiele teorii, metod, technik
zarządzania czy modeli
biznesu w ich przypadku się
nie sprawdza, podczas gdy
rodzimy gamedev bardzo
dynamicznie się rozwija,
dosłownie szturmując rynek
globalny. Jest to o tyle ciekawe,
że branża generuje
ogromne dochody (większe
niż branża muzyczna i filmowa
łącznie!), a większość
gier wypuszczanych na
rynek to gry darmowe.
Pomysły na badania pojawiają
się u mnie jak czołg –
znienacka. Zwykle gdy biegam,
pływam czy zwyczajnie
gotuję. Jak jest pomysł,
trzeba dotrzeć do potencjalnych
badanych, co w mojej
ocenie jest trudnym, o ile
nie najtrudniejszym etapem
badań. Tu liczy się determinacja,
gdyż response rate
to podstawa generalizacji,
a dalej rozwoju wiedzy.
Dwa lata temu, gdy zaczynałam
przygodę z sektorem
gier, podczas targów branżowych
chciałam realizować
wywiady, ale byłam jedyną
osobą w garsonce, w szpilkach,
z teczką, w dziennym
makijażu. Jedyną pośród
niemal tysiąca innych
w trampkach, przetartych
jeansach, z dredami, tatuażami
czy z kolorowymi
włosami. Efekt? Zero przeprowadzonych
wywiadów.
Drugiego dnia w legginsach,
koku, adidasach i bluzie
przeprowadziłam 13 semi-
-strukturyzowanych wywiadów
– lekcja z obserwacji
bezcenna.
Teraz patrzę w stronę strategii
monetyzacji, modeli
biznesu oraz otwartych
modeli biznesu wykorzystywanych
w sektorach kreatywnych.
Mam nadzieję, że
otrzymane z MNiSW wsparcie,
ale przede wszystkim
wybór pasjonującego,
niezbadanego jeszcze
tematu oraz zaangażowanie
w terenie pozwolą
mi realizować nie tylko te,
ale także przyszłe plany
naukowo-badawcze.
For me, scientific work
means a passion for field
research and a way to
quench my curiosity about
the “strategic management”
world. At present,
it is the firms developing
video, mobile, online,
and console games that
arouse my research interest.
It turns out that many
management theories,
methods, and techniques,
or business models do
not apply to or suit them,
whereas, in the meantime,
our domestic gamedev is
doing fantastically well,
literally taking foreign
markets by storm. It is
even more intriguing since
the industry generates
massive sales (higher than
the music and film industries
together!) and most
games on the market are
available for free.
Research ideas sneak
up on me, and they do
it unexpectedly. Usually
when I run, swim or
cook. When I already have
an idea, I need to reach
potential respondents,
which is quite a difficult
– if not the most difficult –
stage of every study. What
matters is determination,
because the response rate
is crucial when it comes
to the generalization and,
further on, development
of knowledge. Two years
ago, when I embarked on
my adventure with the
games industry, I attended
the games fairs because
I wanted to conduct some
interviews, but I was
the only person wearing
a jacket, skirt, and stilettos,
with a suitcase, and
casually made up. The
only one – among almost
a thousand people wearing
canvas sneakers, faded
jeans, dreadlocks, tattoos,
and color dyed hair.
Result? Zero interviews.
The next day, I put on
leggings, sneakers and
a hoody, tied my hair in
a bun, and made 13 semistructured
interviews
– a priceless lesson to be
learnt from observation.
Now, I am drawn by monetization,
business models
and open business models
used in creative industries.
I hope the Minister’s
scholarship paired with
the choice of a fascinating
topic, still unresearched,
and my commitment to
field work will let me pursue
my current and future
scientific and research
plans.
