manufacturers make some lofty<br />

promises, but the technology – for<br />

the most part – is real. A low CG<br />

and high MOI will make a club<br />

more forgiving and therefore<br />

straighter, higher priced shoes are<br />

generally comfier and provide more<br />

stability than cheaper ones, while<br />

groove technology on wedges is<br />

continually improving. Whatever<br />

you’re looking for, there’s something<br />

to fit your taste and budget.<br />

manufacturer will blame the bag<br />

manufacturer, and vice versa. The<br />

remedy apparently is to buy a<br />

“graphite friendly!” bag but the<br />

manufacturer of my clubs said they<br />

did not produce one because it was<br />

not commercially viable, so not only<br />

do you have a product unfit for<br />

purpose but with no back-up!!<br />

You can of course have them<br />

re-shafted at any time for a mere<br />

£55! Alternatively you can use 50p’s<br />

worth of sellotape and just bind the<br />

“offending” area – but why should<br />

HANDICAPPED BY HANDICAP<br />

After many conversations post 18<br />

holes with my regular golfing crew,<br />

the chat has recently taken on a<br />

more sinister topic, that of the<br />

refresh handicap system.<br />

I agree with getting fresh blood<br />

into golf and encourage people to<br />

enter club competitions, now here<br />

comes the BUT. Members are<br />

talking of not even entering the<br />

annual knockouts as giving so many<br />

shots would make it impossible to<br />

get to the prize tables.<br />

Also one of the reasons was a<br />

round of golf would take a lot longer<br />

as you could have inexperienced<br />

golfers teeing off early therefore<br />

holding up all later tee times, a bit<br />

harsh I think as we have all had to<br />

learn, but could be quite a valid<br />

point if you look at it realistically.<br />

So how about running two<br />

competitions, one for those who at<br />

present are in the current handicap<br />

divisions and a second for those<br />

outside of these divisions and as they<br />

improve so they are then promoted<br />

to the current system, would this<br />

then stop members boycotting club<br />

competitions.<br />
