INSTRUCTION IRON PLAY<br />
Learn how to alter your trajectory<br />
The basis of all effective iron shots is an impact position that<br />
ball and the shaft leaning slightly forward so the sweetspot<br />
sees our body weight favouring the front foot and hips<br />
contacts the ball. You can learn to hit higher and lower flights<br />
clearing out the way. This allows the club to approach the ball<br />
by slightly tweaking this standard impact position. Here’s<br />
on a descending attack angle with the low point just past the<br />
when and how to do it.<br />
HIGHER<br />
WHEN? The higher flight is ideal when playing<br />
into firm greens or the pin is at the front of the<br />
green and you need to stop the ball quickly.<br />
HOW? The ball is further forward in the stance,<br />
the weight fractionally back with very slightly more<br />
upper body tilt away from the target. All of these<br />
allow for a shallower attack angle and for more loft<br />
to be delivered to the ball.<br />
LOWER<br />
WHEN? The lower flight is perfect when you<br />
want to control your accuracy in the wind or release<br />
the ball to a pin at the back of the green.<br />
HOW? The ball is slightly back, a little more<br />
weight on the left side and less spine tilt so the<br />
upper body is covering the ball. This allows the<br />
angle of attack to steepen slightly and for less loft<br />
to be presented to the ball.<br />
