CHEDDAH
Fashion, Music &
The Future
By Funke Ajomale
Sometimes, we stay away from our craft to grow,
breathe and come up with something fresh.
Mo’cheddah (Modupe Ola) stayed away for a
while and now she’s here to stay, not just with music
but a new fashion-line and an upcoming beauty line.
While on break, she posted several high fashion
pictures on her Instagram page to keep her
somewhere in our minds; ’nice strategy’ I say to her.
With a new clothing line and new music, she seemed
ready to come out again.
The shoot was done at Bamiyo Emina’s homely
studio and Mo’cheddah, being her warm and
vivacious self, made it more fun than work and was
ready with a pose at every click. Mo’cheddah is still
on top of her game and staying true to her craft.
In this interview with Allure, she speaks about her
transition into designing.

MO
We have always known
you to be a music act who
is fashionable and stylish.
Now, you have a clothing
line. Can you tell us about
the transition?
A clothing line was always
part of my long term goals. It
was just a matter of starting
at the right time. I also have
a make-up line in the works;
I’m a lover of all things
beauty so you would be
seeing a lot of Mo’cheddah
merchandise in the nearest
future.
What’s it like to be
a budding Nigerian
entrepreneur? As a music
act, you have a staff or
two. Now, you have added
fashion.
I have a great team working
with me. That said, being an
entrepreneur is not a walk
in the park; I am working
on so many projects at the
same time with
little or no sleep.
I’m a very hands-on
person so, it’s really
stressful managing
so many people and
personalities. I’m
building my legacy
so, it’s a process.
We hear that
you are quite
multi-talented.
What other talents
besides music and
being able to design
do you have?
I am between being a
motivational speaker.
I also run a women’s
lifestyle blog on
www.mocheddah.
co. I am an image
consultant - not a
lot of people know
this. I am also a
super planner
so it comes
easily to me.

What are your favourite
fashion and beauty items?
I don’t have a favourite
fashion item. I love fashion
way too much to pick one; as
for beauty, I am addicted to
coconut oil.
What’s your favourite
thing to do while on
vacation?
Sleeping.
You had a single “Survive”
earlier this year. How soon
should we expect another?
I will be shooting a new
video for my new single
called “Let Me Love You”. I
have a couple of tricks up my
sleeves with music and I’m
extremely excited. I promise
not to keep you waiting too
long.
What’s your take on the
Nigerian fashion industry
and how it’s being
projected to the world?
The fashion industry has
definitely gone global. We
aren’t on the side-lines
anymore and African culture
is being accepted all over
the world; from Beyoncé
wearing our very own
Nigerian designers to having
our fashion week. We are
becoming global influencers.
Do you think Nigerian
bands are over-priced and
why?
Not at all. Compared to our
international counterparts,
we are not over-priced.
The fact that these designs
are hand-made and not
mass produced requires a
high level of detailing and
creativity.
What’s the philosophy
behind your blog?
To make everyone know
she’s powerful.
How would you describe
yourself fashion wise? Are
you extravagant or classic?
Fashion wise, I’ll say I’m
expressive; one minute, I can
be bold, fun or fierce. I love
to be myself in every area of
my life; it isn’t any different
with fashion
What risk wouldn’t you
take in the name of
fashion?
I will never go naked
or wear anything that
misrepresents me as a
person.
Professionally, are
female musicians rated

same way as their male
counterparts?
Earlier in my career, things
were really difficult for
females because there was a
high level of chauvinism but
not anymore. We have found
our voice and are breaking
new grounds. We are at par
with the guys.
About your new collection,
what inspired it?
I have several collections
in my fashion line –
Mocheddah Clothing;
the ‘Bolanle Collection’
is inspired by all my
sisters while the ‘Modupe
Collection’ is all about the
African spirit. ‘Mocheddah
Clothing’ is focused on
feminine and fun fashion
pieces every woman should
have.
Finally, sleep or food?
I’m not really a fan of both.
As a true creative, I have
insomnia and I eat when I
can.

Glamsquad STYLE
with ADEBAYO JONES
We all want to be beautiful and
confidence after all radiates
when we feel good and know
that we look good. Looking good
however is not without hurdles.
With the advent of social media
sites many of us are signed unto,
almost every bit of an individual’s
postings on style and fashion trends
come under heavy scrutiny these
days, so getting it right is everything.
The selfie culture of today means
almost every moment can be turned
into a photo opportunity. Looking
sharp on the street as well as being
elegantly dressed for
a red carpet event
therefore demands an
understanding of how
to dress to suit your
character and what
is required for a special occasion
particularly. Accessories then must
be chosen to match the occasion
and not solely because they are
trends, and paying attention to the
minutiae details of your outfit will
certainly make you stand apart.
Individuality and personal style
are key components that define the
ethos of any individual who will be
notably recognised for iconic taste
in fashion, trends and uniqueness. A
stylish person is one who has a bold
sense of fashion and the clothing
choices somewhat enhance their
lifestyle. A fashionable person’s
choices are dictated mostly by
designers, and fashion can be seen
as sign of affluence at times. Style
in a person is usually noticeable
in simplicity and elegance, a true
reflection of personality and
character. Buying expensive clothing
doesn’t necessarily make one a
stylish person, small details make
a huge difference and dressing to
suit your personality including an
understanding of style essentials
define one as a person of style
rather than fashion. Almost every
person considered a style icon
or accorded a most fashionable
status, past or present who has
been feted by the public and media
has been able to do so by offering
an unapologetic individuality and
Defining Your Style
a personality. These attributes
reflect confidence and character.
These qualities infused with an
understanding of style trends help
to influence not just their immediate
environment but the world at large.
I have worked professionally as
a haute couture fashion designer
and style consultant in the fashion
industry the past 30 years. Aside
fashion designing, I have been
actively involved in fashion related
Television projects. Previously
I hosted a TV show on fashion,
beauty and lifestyle called “Style
with Adebayo Jones” in England and
presently I host the fashion reality
TV series “The Golden Button”
shown on Canadian Networks. I
have also had the pleasure of guest
appearances on the Glam Squad
Fashion T V show. To be proficient
in haute couture one must firstly
have an indept knowledge of the
human body and various body
shapes as well as design aesthetics.
One should also adopt a caring
approach to concerns of which may
be construed as imperfections by
some, and addressing these issues
is key as it affects our style choices
and fashion trends. When presented
with this opportunity to be a
columnist for the Glam Squad style
trends I couldn’t have been more
delighted.
Making people
beautiful is my
passion. Guiding
towards unfolding
the inner beauty
buried within a person could not
be more rewarding. Instilling
confidence in a client through
resourceful exploration of thinking
out of the box, being open to new
ideas, colours, shapes, is fulfilling.
Mastering what suits and is
appropriate for an individual and
achieving positive results is pure
bliss. For this reasons this column
aims to be your one stop shop for
matters fashion, beauty and lifestyle
related. Since our style trends and
choices affect our social wellbeing,
our aim is to guide our readers
in avoiding the pitfalls of style
and fashion errors that hurt ones
image as well as emotional health.
Questions on your style and fashion
challenges will be welcome and
treated professionally and we look
forward to receiving your mails.

Fashion Innovators...
Mary Quant
Trend innovators like designers
Mary Quant and the Parisian
counterpart Andre Courreges
have been credited with giving us
the invention of the mini skirt in
the 1960’s. The credit seems to
have been favoured more towards
Quant who reportedly is said to
have named the mini skirt after her
favourite car the Mini. The mini
influence is still clearly visible today.
vidal sassoon
British hair stylist Vidal Sassoon
has been credited with creating
some of the most iconic haircuts
in the 60’s revolutionising the hair
dressing industry with precise,
geometric swing bobs which
transformed the stiff 1950’s up do.
He transformed the hairdressing
industry from the 50s influence into
a new era giving women a relaxed,
edgy and stylish look redefining the
past decades.
Yves Saint Laurent
The late master of fashion Yves
Saint Laurent in his Spring
Summer 1966 Haute Couture
collection introduced “Le Smoking”
the female Tuxedo redefining
the female silhouette and almost
turning the fashion industry on
its head if not scandalising it at
that time. Before this the Tuxedo
was always a male domain. This
innovation has become a wardrobe
stable for generations, the epitome
of sex appeal and a symbol of what
one may call girl power. In today’s
view it could easily be considered
the alternative it the little black
dress.
andy warhol
Andy Warhol was an American
artist who was a leading
figure in the movement of pop
art. He particularly explored the
relationship between advertising,
artistic expression and celebrity
culture. He was an icon if not easily
one of the most celebrated of the
pop art movement that started off in
the 1950s.
grace jones
Iconic singer and actress Grace
Jones presented the androgynous
unconventional gender identity of
herself uniquely, whilst celebrating
masculinity almost over her
femininity and making bold
expressive fashion statements in
the process. On and off stage she is
the ultimate fashion diva and icon.
Not everyone however will be
a style icon. While some will
be trends setters and innovators,
majority will follow and be
influenced by these outstanding
individuals, industry professionals
and experts. Celebrity culture, the
norm of the present where most
famous people are now considered
celebrity fashion designers offer
their perspectives within the world
of fashion, beauty, cosmetics and
perfumery sectors. They nowadays
influence a great deal of consumer
perception of style, trends, and
products alike. The main forecast
and trends however come from the
main fashion houses who dictate
season after season our style
choices and the diffusions that filter
down the consumer chain from
high street stores to mass markets.

How does one find one’s
individuality in the midst of all
these influences?
To be unique, outstanding in
personal taste and style takes
quite an effort. For this reason
most famous personalities engage
the services of fashion stylists and
personal shoppers. Every high
profile event that which attracts
celebrities truly does require
detailed industry insight and
seasoned experienced professionals
to get it right for them on the
night. Not getting it right has dire
consequences on the fashion stakes
as images are scrutinised by the
fashion police and errors of poor
judgment in taste and style are
not suffered lightly. The culture
of self-promotion on social media
sites means many are on course to
finding and defining their identities
with some fortunate individuals
even developing online celebrity
status, cult followings and global
successes.
If you are not a celebrity and do not
possess vast resources to expend
on the services of expert stylists,
one will have to master the art of
looking good tastefully and with
delectable precision. Looking
fabulous now is not reserved for
red carpet events only these days.
From everyday looks to occasion
outfits the stakes are now high.
Presenting an almost effortless
looking enchanting appearance, and
good style choices can be achieved
with good guidance and readily
available information. One may not
be a globally recognised style icon,
however defining your individuality
uniquely in fashion can indeed
become a perfected art. Knowing
what works best for you and how
to achieve it propels one to the
winning stakes.
In this column from dealing with
the latest fashion tips, outfit ideas
and designer accessories, as well
as information on must have
products, we will also be dealing
with the personal style dilemmas
and questions that our readers
may have as in today’s world of
style perfection. I look forward to
sharing my insights and expertise
in matters of fashion, beauty and
lifestyle choices. How easy is it
then to perfect the art of personal
Profile
style and mastering the uniqueness
of an individuality that sets one
apart? The answer is simple. Know
yourself. Know what works for
you. Style in a person is noticeable
in simplicity and elegance and
these will reflect your personality
and character. After all it is always
better in my opinion to be known
as a person of style than fashion.
Expensive fashion items alone
surely does not define style. Putting
together your fashion items,
clothing and accessories alike,
expensive and inexpensive pieces,
tastefully and elegantly suited to
the occasion is what defines your
personality and makes one a person
of style.
The name Adebayo Jones is synonymous
with exquisite fashion. The London-based
fashion Designer and style consultant has
long been associated with glamour, elegance,
opulence, Style and he has continued to build an
international following for his fashion label over
the Last three decades.
The King of Couture as he is widely known and
referred to in the fashion world and media,
Adebayo Jones believes details will set your work
apart and the results are simply stunning and ADEBAYO JONES
outstanding.
Renowned for creating his own fabrics and presenting the most lavish
and luxurious collections of gowns, the Adebayo Jones Luxury collection
reflects the style and elegance that has defined his career over the years. It
is for this reason that Adebayo Jones – has come to be widely embraced by
the fashion Community and public at large.

Nollywood Blockbuster
Movies Of 2016
By Chiazor Daniel
A Trip To Jamaica
Popular comedian AY has been
nicknamed the king of Box Office as
he surpassed his previous cinema
record with his new movie A Trip
To Jamaica which premiered late
September 2016. A Trip To Jamaica
which was shot in Nigeria, America
and Jamaica remains the second
highest grossing Nollywood movie
in 2016 with a total revenue of N137
million from cinemas across the
country. The movie cast includes
AY, Funke Akindele, Nse Ikpe Etim,
Patoranking, Cynthia Morgan, Ras
Kimono, Robert, Dan Davies. It also
includes Jamaican acts like Paul
Campbell, Rebecca Silvera, Ghanian
Stars like Chris Attoh. A Trip To
Jamaica tells the tale of Akpos (AY)
and his fiancée Bola (Funke Akindele),
who travel across the Atlantic to visit
family and unexpectedly end up on
an adventure they never imagined.
The year 2016 was such an
amazing year for the Nollywood
film industry as it recorded
impressive cinema grossing
running into millions of naira
from movies which made it to
cinemas nationwide and also for
the first time it saw 8 amazing
Nollywood films win a spot at the
year’s Toronto International Film
Festivals. Let’s take a look at some
of these amazing movies that put
Nollywood film industry on the
world spotlight, their box office
hits and how much they made in
cinemas across the country.
Fifty
Fifty holds the 5th spot of Nollywood
blockbuster movies of 2016 despite
the fact that it was released prior to
the end of 2015. The movie made
such an impressive earnings in the
box office as it went ahead to garner
a whooping sum of N44 million naira
after making N50 million naira upon
its debut in cinemas the previous
year.
The Wedding Party
With such an amazing cast, the
wedding Party holds the number
1 spot for top grossing Nollywood
blockbuster movies of 2016. The
Wedding Party centers on Dunni
Coker (Adesua Etomi) a 24 year old
gallery owner and the only daughter
of a wealthy parent about to marry
the love of her life, IT entrepreneur
Dozie (Banky W). The wedding party
set a new record two weeks ago
grossing a whooping sum of 21.5
million naira. Last week, it beat it’s
previous week’s record earning N110
million in box office revenues in just
one week making a total revenue of
N200 million making it the first movie
to earn that much in Nollywood
history. We look forward to more
surprising records from its run
through the cinemas especially now
that it’s the festive season.

Wives On Strike
Omoni Oboli’s Wives On Strike puts her in the position of
Nollywood’s foremost female film makers of all time as she is
one lady who always knows what the audience long for and she
never disappoints. The first lady as she is popularly called set
the pace earlier this year with her rib cracking drama Wives On
Strike which put her a spot ahead from other female film makers.
“Wives On Strike” grossed a total of N67 million in just 17 days
from cinemas across the country after making N15 million within
its first three days of release and was the most talked about
movie during its run in the cinemas. It starred Omoni Oboli, Uche
Jumbo-Rodriguez, Ufuoma Mcdermoth, Kehinde Bankole, Julius
Agwu, Kenneth Okonkwo.
76
76 is obviously one movie that has not only been
tipped as one of the best movies to come out of
Africa in 2016 but has also redefined Nollywood’s
standards in the international markets. 76 which
depict the tale of the military coup in 1976 first
premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival
TIFF 2016 where it was given a standing ovation by
film makers across the world. It’s already showing
in cinemas across the country and I can tell that
this is one movie tipped by film critics to break box
office earnings in 2017.
The CEO
Multiple Award winning film maker Kunle Afolayan has never
made an unsuccessful movie though the much acclaimed Pan
African movie The CEO didn’t meet up to its hype and expensive
budget of N600 million in cinemas across the country. The CEO
movie which set the pace for other film makers to think outside
the box when it comes to movie premiere as it was premiered
onboard an Air France flight to Paris France giving the media
a lot to talk about. Despite all these the CEO movie made a
disappointing N60 million naira from its box office earnings
across the country.
93 Days
Steve Gukas’s 93 Days is unarguably the movie with
the second most expensive budget in 2016 with a
production budget around N400 million. The movie
is based on Nigeria’s effort to battle the 2014 Ebola
disease. The movie which had a star studded cast
including Hollywood award winning Danny Glover,
Tim Reid and Nollywood A list actors like Bimbo
Akintola, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, Bimbo Manuel,
Tina Mba, Charles Okafor, Gideon Okeke, Somkele
Idhalama was premiered at the House On The Rock
Cathedral church after which it hits cinemas across
the country with an unrevealed grossing.

Ghana Must Go
Ghana Must Go is a comedy which
revolves around two young lovers
who are of Nigerian and Ghanaian
origin. It was produced by Yvonne
Okoro who plays the role of Ama, a
London based Ghanaian lady who
brings her Nigerian boyfriend, Chuks
played by Blossom Chukwujekwu
home to meet her parents resulting in
all hell let loose. Ghana Must Go was
released mid-2016 and it grossed a
total of N32 million in box office.
Just Not Married
Just Not Married is one movie that
proved critics wrong. Who would
have thought that a movie without
a star studded cast but only fresh
faces could do so well both home
and abroad. Just Not Married might
not have made all the millions from
its cinema grossing but undoubtedly
it deserves a spot in 2016 Nollywood
blockbuster movies following its
success from film festivals and
awards. Just Not Married tells a story
of two brothers who choose opposite
paths. Victor is a recent ex-con who is
trying to piece his life together while
Duke is a brilliant undergraduate
determined to see his mum live again.
Just Not Married was produced by
Judith Audu Foght who also played a
lead and directed by Uduak-Obong
Patrick.
The Arbitration
The Arbitration directed by Niyi Akinmolayan tells the story of
Gbenga (O.C Ukeje) and his employee Dara (Adesuwa Etomi) who
had an affair. After the affair ended and Dara left the company, she
sued Gbenga and accused him of rape. An Arbitration panel was constituted
to find out the truth. The Arbitration movie cinema grossing wasn’t disclosed
but it was rumored to have recorded a few sold outs and also booked its
place amongst the eight Nigerian films selected to be screened at the Toronto
International Film festival TIFF 2016.
Brother Jekwu
Mike Ezuruonye’s comedy drama
Brother Jekwu is currently having
an impressive run at the cinemas.
Brother Jekwu grossed N20 million in
just 10 days of its release. The movie
which features Kenya and Nigerian
actors tells the tale of Brother Jekwu
played by Mike Ezuruonye himself
who doubles as the producer who
traveled outside the country to Kenya
in search of greener Pastures. Brother
Jekwu is still showing in cinemas and
we hope it sustains these impressive
records.

TOP10
MUSICAL
ACTS IN
2016
By Sebastiane Ebatamehi
The pages of 2016 will
forever stand out in the
history books of the Nigerian
Entertainment Industry.
Laden with activities,
scandal, revelations, break
ups, surprises, deaths,
births....rebirths, and of
cause a good dose ‘unrivaled’
artistry and brilliance;
activities of last year will not
leave our lips any time soon.
The Nigerian industry has
never lacked talents nor
shied away from the limelight
and 2016 was no exception.
What a year it was? From
Tiwa Savage’s marital
turbulence to wizkid’s
international ‘initiation’,
from the Lil Kesh/Olamide
‘divorce’ to Iyanya’s
‘marriage’ to Don Jazzy and
the Mavin Family....the year
saw it all.
In all of this, this is our TOP
10 Acts of 2016 and why
they deserved the mention.
See if your ‘fav’ acts made
it to the list and feel free to
write us if you agree.......(or
disagree) with our list.
10
Yemi Alade
On No. 10 we have the ‘Jonny’
crooner Yemi Alade. It was a good
year for Yemi who got nominated
for a BET Awards, and although
she didn’t get to clinch the award,
she scored tops on the red carpet
with a Zuhair Murad‘s 2016 Resort
Collection reportedly costing her
approximately N2.5m. You Go Girl!!!
No doubt a talented workaholic, she
also won a MAMA for the Best Female
Act in Africa.
9
Mr. Eazi
This Mr Eazi sef, this guy
has slowly crept into the
heart of the Nigerian Music
Industry and yes! He did
it all the way from Ghana.
With very little hype, Mr
Eazi worked his way up the
ranks with nothing but good
discipline and pure artistry.
His understanding and
interpretation of Highlife
fused with hip-hop has
worked wonders and
successful collaborations
with Eugy, IllBliss, Reminisce,
Solidstar, Del’B, Rayce, Shatta
Wale, DJ Neptune, DJ Spinall,
Terry G, Lil Kesh, Phyno, Jeed
Rogers, Ko-Jo Cue, Sarkodie,
PhizBarz, Sheunakamura and
many others attests to his
qualities.
With his trade-mark raffia
woven hat, Mr Eazi sure knows
how to make music lovers.

Kiss Daniel
Rumours have it that Kiss Daniel
is not allowed to feature other
artistes in his songs except those
signed to the same G-Worldwide
Entertainment Label like himself
(except of course he is doing a remix
like we saw with ‘WOJU’ where he
had Tiwa Savage and Davido).
Whether this is true of if he just likes
to go ‘solo’, Kiss Daniel is GOOD at
what he does and he knows what
works for him. The success of ‘Woju’,
‘Laye’, and ‘Good time’ can attest to
how well he has carved a niche and
identity for himself. Well Done!
Olamide
5
lamide is now a man! It was a big year for
the ‘street king’ and although he had to
cope with the sudden news of his protégé, Lil
Kesh leaving YBNL to form Y.A.G.I., he scored
high on the success of Adekunle Gold who
continued to make waves all through the year.
He signed two new acts – Temi Ovwasa, and
Davolee.
‘Who u epp’ became a brand and we all know
the originator, don’t we?
8 Davido 7
When the news broke earlier
in the year 2016 that Sony
Music has made Davido their flagship
artiste, no one was surprised really.
If anyone was to play that script,
it would be the ‘Omo Baba Owo’
himself. This deal, the first of its kind
in Nigeria saw Davido transit into an
international star and marketed via
Sony.
However, Davido at that time was on
an ‘unprecedented drought’ from the
music scene.
Then, he showed up again.......in
the final quarter of the year with
an EP “Son Of Mercy”. With the hit
track ‘Gbagbe oshi’, Davido showed
us that he wasn’t done yet but just
‘hibernating...’
Patoranking
Patoranking is a good ambassador
of ‘pato’ and ‘ragga’. It was a big
year for him with his collaboration
with Sarkodie ‘No Kissing Baby’
recognized as biggest collaboration
of the year and single ‘My woman
my everything’ featuring the ever
talented Wande Coal winning the
Best Song at the MAMA 2016.
He was also one of the judges of the
well publicized music reality show
‘The Voice Nigeria’ sponsored by
Airtel. He sure made some big bucks
from that one and this lover boy is
not done yet!
Falz 4
Falz the BAHD Guy is a bundle
of talent wrapped in a human
ensemble. From the scenes of
the popular soap ‘Jenifa’s Diary’,
Falz (Shegee) transcends to the
stage where he switches roles
as an A-List actor to a super star
hip-hop artiste. How does he do
this????
Winner of the BET Award
for the Viewer’s Choice Best
International Act, Falz is one on a mission.
With Simi he has built a partnership which every music artiste in the
country is jealous of. Enough said!
6

Tekno & Reekado Banks
Yes, I had to give it to them both!
These two should do a collabo!
First, Tekno for me was the revelation
of the year and ‘Pana’ is one song that
can stand its own anywhere anytime,
and the boy doesn’t disappoint. The
boy is good and it was a great year.
In Techno, Made Men Music has an
artiste who can compete locally and
internationally, from nothing he has
made his name known.....and most
importantly the girls love him.
3
Enter.....Reekado Banks, the ‘standard’
crooner has repaid the confidence
Don Jazzy had in him. Prior to the
‘Dorobucci’ track, not much was
known about Reekado and many
didn’t see a star shining on his
forehead; but yes! Don jazzy saw it,
signed the small boy and the small
boy turned into a big man!
Well done, you both deserve this
mention!
Phyno & Wizkid
The truest ambassador of
Eastern Nigeria, Phyno is a
‘Fada’! Fada Fada was a blast! The
song was so good it even crept into
the churches.
One thing you can not take from
Phyno is his ‘calm consistency’. He
has been able to deliver over time
and showed us how lyrically sound
he truly is, despite the fact that he
raps in the Ibo dialect.
Who goes there? Oh, it’s Wizkid
(or should we say Wizman?)
2
This year, Wizkid was the envy
of everyone. The singer has been
touring since he dropped “Ayo
(Joy)” in 2014 after his departure
from EME.
He has travelled and held record
breaking concerts in every part of
the world (that boy should have a
diplomatic passport!)
His collabo with Drake ‘One
dance’ ft Wizkid has got a Grammy
nomination and this is the first by
a Nigerian pop star.
1
King Sunny
Ade
King Sunny Ade is Nigeria’s
biggest music legend and 2016
was a good year for him. He not
only clocked 70 but was celebrated
lavishly all over the world.
The king who is credited for taking
Juju music to the world never seems
to age! Good gracious, you need to
see this man on stage!
He was induced into the Hard Rock
Cafe hall of fame and his guitar
was auctioned for about 52 Million
Naira, yeah you heard right! He is
billed to perform along side Beyonce
and other Top A-list International
artists in April, 2017. He was also
honoured at the AFRIMMA 2016
for his enormous contribution to
African music as a whole.
Let’s tip our caps for the Legend
King!

WHY WE GIVE
VALENT
By Funke Ajomale
Growing up Valentine’s Day has always been
a day to give a special person a Gift and each
time you want to up your game ; you don’t want
to give the same thing or be regular . If you can
remember your teachers in school would do a
ballot and you picked someone different each
year. If you are lucky it’s someone you like, and if
not, then you start to think ‘what would they get
me’, ‘I’m sure it won’t be something significant or
nice ‘ . On the other hand you might not put any
WHY VALENTINE ?
Claudius had ordered all Romans
to worship twelve gods, and
had made it a crime punishable
by death to associate with
Christians. But Valentinus was
dedicated to the ideals of Christ;
not even the threat of death
could keep him from practicing
his beliefs. He was arrested and
imprisoned.
During the last weeks of
Valentinus’s life a remarkable
thing happened. Seeing that he
was a man of learning, the jailer
asked whether his daughter, Julia,
might be brought to Valentinus
for lessons. She had been blind
since birth. Julia was a pretty
young girl with a quick mind.
Valentinus read stories of Rome’s
history to her. He described
the world of nature to her. He
taught her arithmetic and told
her about God. She saw the
world through his eyes, trusted
his wisdom, and found comfort in
his quiet strength.
“Valentinus, does God really hear
our prayers?” Julia asked one day.
“Yes, my child, He hears each
one.”
“Do you know what I pray for
every morning and every night? I
pray that I might see. I want so
much to see everything you’ve
told me about!”
“God does what is best for us
if we will only believe in Him,”
Valentinus said.
“Oh, Valentinus, I do believe! I
do!” She knelt and grasped his
hand.
They sat quietly together, each
praying. Suddenly there was
a brilliant light in the prison
cell. Radiant, Julia screamed,
“Valentinus, I can see! I can
see!”
“Praise be to God!” Valentinus
exclaimed, and he knelt in prayer.
On the eve of his death
Valentinus wrote a last note to
Julia, urging her to stay close
to God. He signed it, “From
your Valentine.” His sentence
was carried out the next day,
February 14, 270 A.D., near a
gate that was later named Porta
Valentini in his memory. He
was buried at what is now the
Church of Praxedes in Rome. It
is said that Julia planted a pinkblossomed
almond tree near
his grave. Today, the almond
tree remains a symbol of abiding
love and friendship. On each
February 14, Saint Valentine’s
Day, messages of affection, love,
and devotion are exchanged
around the world.”

& WHAT TO GIVE ON
INE’S DAY
serious efforts to get a gift because there’s
no care or friendship there to start with .
But on the other hand when there is care,
friendship and love , it is imperative to put in
an effort to get something special. .
The question of what to give comes up every
pre Valentine season ,and it usually centres
around fashion items, but before we make a
list of items to give or where to go , let’s share
a little story of how this day came to be .
perfume
Now that we understand what
the day is really about we can
decide to go Above and beyond
for that special someone or just
stay within limits .
But we would still like to make
a little list just to guide you .
Most gift items have significant
meanings , take for instance ,” A
watch says a lot ; means u value
your time together as what to
spend endless times with them. A
piece of jewellery ; the person is
precious to you “
but you still need to know what
your valentine would like and
appreciate and all in all its the
thought that counts .
Here’s a list below to guide you .
• Fine dining
• Spending more quality time at
home
• A watch
• A pair of shoe
• A piece of jewellery
• Spa date
• Flowers
• A wallet
• Chocolate
chocolate
• Clothing
• Make up and beauty products
( they are really expensive these
days )
• Leather goods ( wallets , bag ,
belts )
• A pen and note pad
• Perfume
• Travel tickets
• A love note ( letter )
• A blanket ( duvet)
• And some people would rather
have the money rather than the
gifts.
Everyday Beauty Rituals That Improves Your
Health And Wellness
By Hannah
What do we expect
to see when we
look at ourselves in
the mirror every morning?
Yeah….we expects to see
ourselves look better than
we were yesterday! That’s
why there is always a look of
disappointment when we do
not see what we expect! Oh yes,
there are those days…
The truth is ‘your health
reflects on your skin’ and
perhaps vice-visa. So the
healthier you are internally, the
more beautiful the exterior. It’s
a win win. And when we talk
about health, we also mean
stress levels and happiness.
Our skin shows those, too.
What this means is that the
everyday beauty measures we
take affect our health one way
or the other, isn’t that lovely
beauties? Wow, it sure is!
However, while we will never
cease to slather ourselves with
lovely oils and use natural
minerals to perfect our
complexions, there are more
ways to enhance our beauty…..
and health naturally.
Here are some of my favorite
tips shared by Hope Freije.
Enjoy!
lady exercising
drinking water
Don’t roll your eyes. Maybe you
knew this was coming, but it
has to be said. Dehydration makes
wrinkles more apparent and keeps
your body from doing the things it
needs to do.
Sweat It Out
About 20% of the body’s
elimination occurs through
perspiration. Keep things
circulating by sweating. Sit in a
sauna, exercise, or do both!
Bikram yoga, cycling, or going
for a jog are great ways to work
up a sweat. Do whichever suits
you! Make sure to wash your face
before working out, especially
if you wear makeup. When you
Drink Water
Drink water slowly throughout
the day, every day. If you try to
compensate by chugging a gallon of
water after dinner, you won’t absorb
it all (and you’ll have to get up to go
pee while you should be getting your
beauty sleep!).
If you drink beverages that make
you dehydrated, such as coffee and
alcohol, hydrate before and after to
negate the effects. If you love your
morning coffee, I’m not saying you
should give it up. You brew you! But
challenge yourself to drink a glass of
water first thing in the morning.
The body uses water to cleanse. If we
can’t flush them out that way, they
build up in other places or show up
on our skin.
Get Naked of Make-Up
once in a while
mineral
makeup
Our good pal Kris Carr recommends
going makeup-less one day a week.
This will give your pores a chance to
breathe.
If going without makeup doesn’t sound
fun to you, make sure you use mineral
makeup so your skin doesn’t absorb
toxic chemicals.
sweat, your pores open up and
invite whatever’s around to come
hang out. A.k.a., your makeup, dirt,
and the other remnants of your day.
Shower right after you work out to
avoid reabsorbing everything you
just sweat out.
Exercising also releases endorphins,
and we know being happy makes
you that much more beautiful!
Plus, getting your heart rate up will
give your cheeks some color, while
keeping your heart healthy.

Brew Yourself a
Bath
We’re pretty water-themed so far.
But that’s how we earthlings
do it!
Taking a bath is super relaxing,
relieving the stress that wears on
your whole being, including your
skin.
Take your bath to the next level by
brewing a big, strong (I like where
this is going) pot of tea and adding it
to the water. Of course, make sure the
water isn’t too hot before you jump in
(is this a necessary disclaimer?).
This way, you can enjoy the benefits
of herbs from head to toe! Try the
following teas in your bath:
• Chamomile
• Echinacea
• Fennel
• Yarrow
Tone Your
Tresses
Hair rinses are easy
to make and can
be used regularly to
nourish your scalp,
soften, and add subtle
color to your hair.
Brew a large pot of tea,
let it cool, then rinse
your hair with it after
you shampoo. Leave
on for 20 minutes and
condition as usual. Try these:
• Black tea or coffee
to deepen color and add subtle
reddish tones.
• Chamomile lightens hair
and soothes the scalp.
• Rosemary cleans the hair.
Maybe adding an extra step to
your shower routine doesn’t
sound too appealing. Another
option is to simply add some
ingredients to your shampoo.
natural hair
If you have brown hair, add cocoa
powder and cinnamon to your
shampoo to deepen your color. You
can add honey to your shampoo to
lighten hair, but make sure to wash it
out thoroughly!
white teeth
Whiten Teeth
with… Charcoal?
You can use this black powder as
a teeth whitening treatment. Add
it to your toothpaste or put it directly
on your toothbrush (do this over the
sink to avoid a mess). This treatment,
a couple times a week, will draw out
impurities from your mouth and
lift stains off your teeth for a whiter
smile!
If this totally freaks you out, try oil
pulling (also known as “kavala” or
“gundusha,” is an ancient Ayurvedic
dental technique that involves
swishing a tablespoon of oil in
your mouth on an empty stomach
for around 20 minutes. This action
supposedly draws out toxins in
your body, primarily to improve
oral health but also to improve your
overall health)
natural eyelashes
The Other Hair
We religiously condition our
hair but mercilessly ignore
our eyelashes. What’s up with that?
We’re here to promote equality for
all hair.
Swipe a gentle oil or organic eye
cream on the tips of your eyelashes
and over your eyebrows at night
to keep them silky soft. This is
especially important if you haven’t
yet switched to a natural mascara!
Make sure to keep your brows well
shaped to frame your face. If plucking
isn’t your specialty, try waxing or
threading to stay looking gorgeously
groomed.
Think Pretty
Just kidding… kind of. Thinking
good thoughts and maintaining
positive thoughts and intentions
will truly make you more beautiful.
Sadness wears on us, physically as
well as emotionally.
Delight yourself by surrounding
yourself with beautiful things. Keep a
vase of flowers in your room, diffuse
delicious and relaxing scents like
neroli throughout your house, and
adorn your house in decorations
that inspire and please you. Wear
comfortable clothing that makes you
feel confident, keep your spaces clean
to prevent confusion and distress,
and pay attention to how the foods
you eat make you feel.
What do you do to enhance your
beauty naturally? We will love to
hear from you!
