Classes are available for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced,<br />

and are held Monday–Friday at most NYPL locations and on<br />

weekends at selected sites. Many classes, which are taught by experienced<br />

instructors, are also offered in Spanish and Chinese.<br />

NYPL has thousands of public-access computers across its 93<br />

locations. Reservations are not required, but can be made up to a<br />

day in advance at pcreserve.nypl.org. Sessions generally last 45<br />

minutes. Desktop computers provide Internet access, word-processing,<br />

and printing for library cardholders. Branches also offer laptops<br />

for library use. Free Wi-Fi is available at all locations.<br />

Libraries with the longest hours and most public-access computers<br />

and computer classes include the Bronx Library Center (310 East<br />

Kingsbridge Road) and the Mid-Manhattan Library (455 5th Avenue, at<br />

40th Street).<br />

LITERACY & ENGLISH CLASSES<br />

English classes for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for beginning,<br />

intermediate, and advanced students are available at more than<br />

40 libraries in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. Classes are<br />

held year-round in 10-week cycles. Most classes meet two days a<br />

week for two hours each day. Select classes meet on Saturday mornings<br />

for four hours. To register for classes, students must attend an<br />

information session, which are held four times a year. To find orientation<br />

Libraries in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island also host English<br />

conversation groups, where ESOL students can practice speaking<br />

English with volunteer facilitators or using the We Are New York<br />

NYPL provides literacy classes for adults who speak English but<br />

have difficulty reading and writing. New readers and writers take<br />

NYPL serves as one of New York’s primary resources of information<br />

and on-on-one support for patrons looking for jobs, seeking<br />

help with professional skills, and managing personal finances. The<br />

Library’s Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL), on<br />

Madison Avenue at 34th Street, and the Career and Education<br />

Information Services (CEIS) center at the Bronx Library<br />

Center, on 310 East Kingsbridge Road, house comprehensive materials<br />

and offer free, individualized work and financial counseling by<br />

appointment.<br />

The Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL) is a circulating<br />

and research library that features extensive business and finance<br />

resources, job-search help, and small business support. It houses<br />

business, trade, and popular-science periodicals, plus premium<br />

online business and finance databases. Job Search Central, on<br />

the Library’s lower level, is a one-stop-shop for job seekers at all<br />
