resumes, cover letters, interview tips, and more, which can be<br />

checked out (a large collection of e-books on the same subjects<br />

is also available). Nearly every day, SIBL presents classes on<br />

topics of interest to job seekers, and patrons can schedule free<br />

one-on-one coaching sessions. Free coaching services are by<br />

NYPL offers a wealth of information and services to assist patrons<br />

in making wise financial choices. Financial Literacy Central,<br />

also on the Library’s lower level, has books to borrow and regular<br />

classes on budgeting, investing, tax assistance, college planning<br />

and financial aid, avoiding scams and fraud, and more. Free counseling<br />

on personal money matters is available by appointment (sign<br />

up at financial-literacy.genbook.com). Call for more information<br />

about free credit-crisis counseling (212.614.5413) and Medicare<br />

counseling (212.602.4392).<br />

Small business resources of all kinds can be found at SIBL.<br />

SCORE at SIBL provides free advice to small business managers<br />

and entrepreneurs (start-up, preparing a business plan, applying for<br />

a business loan, forming a corporation or partnership), one-on-one<br />

appointments, and workshops and seminars. For more information<br />

SIBL sponsors its annual New York StartUP! Business Plan<br />

Competition for residents of the Bronx, Manhattan, and<br />

Staten Island, which awards cash prizes of more than $30,000.<br />

Prospective entrepreneurs gain practical information about starting<br />

and growing a business while using the comprehensive small<br />

business resources at SIBL. For details about the competition, visit<br />

SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES<br />

The Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library (40<br />

West 20th Street) provides reading materials for people who are<br />

blind, visually impaired, or have a physical disability that makes it<br />

difficult to read a book or standard print. Audiobooks, as well as an<br />

audiobook player, can be mailed to your home free of charge. The<br />

library provides access to assistive technology, including magnifiers<br />

and text-to-speech software, and offers one-on-one technology<br />

go to nypl.org/printdisabilities for more information. For hearingimpaired<br />

patrons, sign-language interpretation or real-time captioning<br />

for library classes and programs can be arranged. Please email<br />

FAMILY & CULTURAL PROGRAMMING<br />

NYPL offers programs, classes, and events for children and teens<br />

in most locations across Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island,<br />

including story hours for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and schoolage<br />

children; science and art workshops for children of all ages;<br />

homework help and tutoring; musical performances; and much more.<br />

Adults can find an array of cultural programs, including lectures,<br />

concerts, films, exhibitions, and author talks. Visit nypl.org to find<br />
