In Br Eighth <strong>Army</strong>’s 13 Corps area, 6th Armd<br />

Div crosses the Adige and drives to Monselice. NZ<br />

2d Div column moves through Monselice to Padua<br />

during night 28–29 and finds partisans in possession<br />

of the town. 5 Corps attacks toward Venice with<br />

56th Div.<br />

BURMA—In ALFSEA’s 15 Corps area, 82d W<br />

African Div occupies Taungup, which patrols had<br />

found clear of enemy in mid-April, completing reconquest<br />

of Arakan coast. In Br Fourteenth <strong>Army</strong>’s<br />

33 Corps area, Allanmyo, on road to Prome, falls to<br />

Ind 20th Div.<br />

LUZON—In U.S. Sixth <strong>Army</strong>’s I Corps area,<br />

37th and 33d Divs prepare to clear northward from<br />

Baguio. In effort to exploit toward Balete Pass from<br />

Lone Tree Hill, 25th Div attaches 3d Bn of 35th<br />

Inf to 27th Inf. 3d Bn, 27th Inf, when relieved on<br />

Mt Myoko by 3d Bn, 35th, is to move to Lone Tree<br />

Hill sector. Co A, 35th Inf, overtakes Co F on ridge<br />

1,300 yards NNE of Kapintalan and starts NE to<br />

establish contact with 27th Inf but is soon pinned<br />

down. 3d Bn, 27th Inf, gets to within 40 yards of<br />

crest of Myoko hill mass. XI Corps is directed to<br />

regroup for drive on Ipo Dam. In XIV Corps area,<br />

Japanese resistance in Cituinan hill mass collapses,<br />

concluding organized resistance in the Bicols. 11th<br />

A/B Div continues attack in Mt Mataasna Bundoc<br />

area with 511th Inf on S and 8th Cav and 188th<br />

Inf on N. Some progress is made, but gap of 2<br />

miles exists between N and S forces.<br />

S PHILIPPINES—In U.S. Eighth <strong>Army</strong>’s X Corps<br />

area, 2d Bn of 34th Inf, 24th Div, seizes Digos,<br />

cutting Mindanao in two. 19th Inf attacks N through<br />

34th toward Davao. 2d Bn of 124th Inf, 31st Div,<br />

gains over 4 miles along Sayre Highway, reaching<br />

positions beyond Atoman. On Negros, 2d Bn of<br />

164th Inf in Negros Oriental continues to clear<br />

heights near Palimpinon while 1st Bn moves to<br />

Luzuriaga to drive W in region S of 2d Bn. Contact<br />

with enemy is light. In Negros Occidental, 2d Bn<br />

of 185th Inf returns to parent unit after assisting<br />

10th Inf in attack on Hill 3155, on slopes of which<br />

Japanese are still clinging. Guerrillas replace 2d Bn<br />

in this sector. Ground attack on Hill 3155 is suspended<br />

for some days while patrols develop enemy<br />

positions and fire softens them.<br />

R YUKYU Is.—In U.S. Tenth <strong>Army</strong>’s XXIV<br />

Corps area, lively fighting continues in Yafusu area<br />

of Okinawa on 27th Div front. Japanese hold Maeda<br />

Escarpment against 96th Div attacks. Co K, 381st<br />

Inf, moves through 27th Div zone toward strongpoint,<br />

called Apartment House, S of the escarpment<br />

but is forced back with heavy losses. In 7th Div<br />

zone, 3d Bn of 17th Inf replaces 1st Bn W of Kochi<br />

Ridge and attempts unsuccessfully to outflank enemy<br />

positions. 32d Inf attacks toward Kuhazu but is<br />

stopped short by heavy fire. Armored flame throwers<br />

push into the village, however.<br />

WESTERN EUROPE—21 <strong>Army</strong> Group: In Br Second<br />

<strong>Army</strong> area, 30 Corps, with task of clearing<br />

Cuxhaven peninsula, takes command of Gds Armd<br />

Div. 8 Corps opens final drive of army, from the<br />

Elbe to the Baltic, at 0200 when 15th Div, reinf by<br />

Cdn 1st Brig, crosses the Elbe in Lauenburg area<br />

and establishes bridgehead. In U.S. XVIII Corps<br />

(A/B) area, 505th Para Inf, the first of 82d A/B<br />

Div forces to reach the Elbe, and attached 13th Inf<br />

of 8th Div relieve Br 5th Div along the Elbe.<br />

12th <strong>Army</strong> Group: In U.S. Ninth <strong>Army</strong>’s XIX<br />

Corps area, 125th Sq of 113th Cav Gp moves E of<br />

the Elbe to Zerbst and reconnoiters in effort to<br />

establish contact with Soviet forces.<br />

In U.S. First <strong>Army</strong> area, VII Corps maintains<br />

current positions, patrols, and regroups. 9th Div<br />

shifts right to relieve 415th Inf, 104th Div, along<br />

the Mulde. CCA and CCR, 9th Armd Div, start<br />

to assembly area in vicinity of Jena. V Corps starts<br />

S to new zone. In VIII Corps area, 1st Div completes<br />

relief of 97th Div on left flank of XII Corps<br />

and takes responsibility for its sector.<br />

U.S. Third <strong>Army</strong> releases 5th Div to XII Corps.<br />

In XII Corps area, CCB of 11th Armd Div attacks<br />

SW toward Passau to clear 26th Div zone E of Ilz R<br />

and N of the Danube, reaching Hutthurm. Continuing<br />

SE along the Danube, 26th Div reaches general<br />

line Spitzendorf-Otterskirchen and makes contact<br />

with 11th Armd Div. 80th Div TF, driving from Neukirchen,<br />

finds Nyrsko undefended. 2d Cav Gp<br />

( — ) moves to Zwiesel to secure pass NE of Regen<br />

and screen along Czechoslovakian border. In XX<br />

Corps area, 13th Armd Div doses along the Isar<br />

and establishes bridgehead. CCB, assisted by arty<br />

fire and smoke screen, crosses 2 cos at Platting, where<br />

engineers begin construction of bridge. CCR, in<br />

center, drives to the Isar in Landau area. On right<br />

flank of div, CCA reaches the Isar at Landshut.<br />

Preparations are made to cross the entire div over<br />

bridge at Platting. 80th Div completes its crossing<br />

of the Danube. RCT’s 318 and 319 follow 13th<br />

Armd Div by motor. RCT 317 assembles in vicinity<br />

of Koefering. 71st Div advances rapidly toward the<br />

Isar against light resistance and is ordered to seize<br />

Isar crossings in vicinity of Hanau and Zeholfing.<br />

43d Sq, 3d Cav Gp, moves forward to protect right<br />

flank of corps from the Danube to the Isar. In III<br />

Corps area, 14th Cav Gp crosses the Danube in 99th<br />

Div zone and heads for the Isar. 99th Div advances<br />

to the Isar against little or no resistance, securing<br />

line Pfettrach–Bruckberg–Moosburg. CCA, 14th<br />

Armd Div, reaches the Isar at Moosburg and pre-
