“The success of the Pack 85/Troop
85 program is about great quality adult
volunteers and involved parents and
guardians,” Haines said. The Andrew
Jackson Council provides services and
facilities, “but the leadership for Pack/Troop
85 provides the lifetime memories and
experiences.”
White, himself an Eagle Scout from
Troop 85, has been Scoutmaster since
1996. He wanted to expand the program,
so he signed papers in 2008 to begin Pack
85. That year Bridges and his son Joshua,
then a first-grader, joined the pack with 11
other boys and four leaders. There were
only two Troop 85 members at the time.
Participation increased the next year, just
as it has done every year since.
