Serving our county
Constable Barry Bean
rankin county sherriff's Department
Why did you decide to become a
constable?
After serving 9 years with the 113th Military
Police Company in Brandon, I realized my
passion was law enforcement.
How long have you been with Rankin
County Sheriff’s Department?
I was sworn in as a reserve deputy in 1995
under J.B. Torrence’s administration and
continued to serve as a reserve officer until
I was elected constable in 2000. I have been
honored to serve as bailiff in Rankin County
Chancery Court for Sheriffs’ Ken Dickerson,
Ronnie Pennington and Bryan Bailey, since
2001.
What do you enjoy most about
your typical day as a constable?
There is never a typical day. My duties as
constable are varied with a new experience
every day.
What is the toughest thing you have
experienced as a constable?
Responding to a scene with fatalities and
having their family members present. Also,
an unfortunate part of the job as constable
is having to evict people from their homes.
Tell us about your family.
While I have a small family, I am so blessed.
I have been married to my loving wife, Angela,
for 28 years. I have the best mom around, Kitty,
who has always shown me love and compassion.
A great sister in law Sherry Sills and her two
children, Taylor and Meredith Sills.
Share some things that you enjoy
in your spare time.
SEC Football, hunting and fishing.
What are three things on your
bucket list?
Travel to Alaska, Hawaii and enjoy the
experiences of another mission trip to
Nicaragua.
What do you consider your greatest
achievement/accomplishment and why?
I am humbled to have been elected to my
fifth term as constable in Rankin County.
I am grateful to know that the citizens in District
Three have stood behind me and continue to
support me as their constable.
Who is someone you admire and why?
My late brother in law, Jeffrey Sills, for his
direction and encouragement to run for this
office and impressing on me the ability to
help others.
What is your favorite holiday and why?
I have two; Christmas, celebrating the birth of
our Savior Jesus Christ and Easter where we
are able to celebrate His resurrection.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
Hunting and fishing in the Delta with my late
father, Carlos Bean. My father taught me many
things that I will cherish and always carry with me.
What is the biggest mistake you think
young people make today?
Succumbing to peer pressure.
If you could give one piece of advice to
a young person, what would it be?
Like my father always told me, “Remember
where you came from and where you are
headed.”
What is most rewarding about your job?
Helping people.
Where do you see yourself ten years
from now?
Enjoying retirement and helping others.
What’s your favorite thing about
Rankin County?
First and foremost is the quality of life that
includes a strong law enforcement presence
and the ability to work together for the common
good. This combination provides an unparalleled
quality for the present and future generations.
