6 WAIKATO BUSINESS NEWS February/March 2017
From the editor
With the importance of
all things digital to virtually
all our businesses these days,
the February/March Waikato
Business News has a strong
IT theme.
We celebrate the launch
of Cultivate IT and the
success of the inaugural
Waikato Technological
Showcase at Innovation Park.
Congratulations to the instigators
of the Cultivate IT
cluster which will enable the
region’s IT businesses, while
still competing in many cases
obviously, to work together
to pitch for significant contracts
or R & D funding.
Waikato has some incredible
talent in the sector and it’s
heartening to see such collaboration
occurring.
This IT theme is continued
as Andrea Fox looks at future
trends fast approaching,
courtesy of a briefing from
KPMG executive chairman
Ross Buckley. The impact
of population trends, digital
disruption, changing job markets
and robots on our businesses
in the near future will
be profound. Disturbingly,
surveys are showing most of
us simply aren’t ready for
what is to come.
Other stories include a
profile of Hansa Chippers, a
business established in a back
yard shed in Ohaupo which
is now a world class design
and manufacturing company
exporting half of its production.
We continue last edition’s
focus on the Waikato building
boom by profiling two
Waikato building companies
leading the way. Te Rapabased
Design Builders specialises
in custom designed
one off builds. The company’s
success is due in part to longstanding
relationships with
sub contractors and suppliers
and a structure which sees
the company share design,
accounting, marketing and
website resources with other
Design Builders companies
around New Zealand.
Meanwhile Paul and Sue
Kingsbeer, in partnership
with builders in other main
centres are creating a nationwide
brand with Steel Shed
Systems by identifying a
need to create design and
build solutions in the rural/
commercial market.
If you have a success story
to share, please let us know.
Waikato Business News
would love to tell it.
