Discovering Tierra del Fuego in the footsteps of the explorer Father Alberto Maria De
Agostini.
One hundred years after the first missionary landed in Tierra del Fuego, and fifty years since
returning to Italy, his nephew Giovanni De Agostini visits the places his uncle described with
such a wealth of detail during his short stays at home. Thanks to his uncle’s stories, Giovanni’s
childhood was filled with dreams of uncontaminated peaks such as Mount
Sarmiento and Fitz Roy; animals like penguins and whales; glaciers, fjords, and above all
people dressed in guanaco skins, which he’ll never be able to see.
Since the death of Father Alberto, a long while back in 1960, Giovanni has longed to carry
out this journey. We’ll follow him, as he finally fulfils the dream of a lifetime.
