10 the advertizer t: 01505 613340 e: info@advertizer.co.uk Greenock Branch and West of Scotland Branch Argylls It was a night of fun and laughter at Erskine Hospital when the Greenock branch and West of Scotland branch Argylls, through fundraising events and a donation from Rosie Jake Photography, recently donated a cheque for £650 to Erskine Hospital. Many of the old and young enjoyed refreshments and spoke about times in the forces and enjoyed memories and remembering old friends. The night was deemed a great success. Building Bridges between Charity and Construction Renfrewshire charity, Finding Your Feet, has received a donation of £500 from Pacific Building, a leading construction firm based in Hillington. Finding Your Feet is the latest charity to benefit from Pacific Building’s philanthropic programme, set up to mark the company’s tenth anniversary and which has seen the construction firm donate £500 to ten charities in the area. Corinne Hutton, quadruple amputee and founder of Finding Your Feet, visited Pacific’s headquarters in Hillington to accept the donation from Managing Director Brian Gallacher (pictured). Corinne, a single mum-of-one from Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire, had her hands and feet amputated in <strong>June</strong> 2013 after contracting septicaemia. Soon after, she started the charity Finding Your Feet to help others who find themselves in her situation. She is due to be the first person in the UK to undergo a double hand transplant later this year, a pioneering operation to be performed at Leeds General Infirmary, led by Professor Simon Kay. Kay carried out the UK’s first successful single hand transplant on Mark Cahill in December 2012. Finding Your Feet offers a support network to those who find themselves facing life-changing trauma, by means of financial assistance, advice and emotional support. The charity has already received the backing of celebrity A-listers including Mel Gibson, Robert Carlyle, Gerard Butler, Vinnie Jones, Andy Murray, Lorraine Kelly and Ford Kiernan – all of whom have donated their signed handprints to highlight the cause. These will eventually be exhibited and auctioned off to raise funds for the charity. Pacific Building is an innovative fit-out and construction company delivering high quality projects throughout the UK and Ireland, working across a variety of sectors, including commercial, leisure and retail. On receipt of the cheque, Corinne commented: “We were really surprised to get the call from Pacific Building to say they would be donating £500 to Finding Your Feet as we’re aware we are still a relatively new charity that many people haven’t yet heard of. This money will make a huge difference and help people facing life-changing physical trauma to get back on their feet again. We are extremely grateful to Pacific Building and hope this is the start of a long-term relationship with them.” Managing Director Brian Gallacher presented the cheque to Corinne and commented: “What an inspiring person Corinne is – and so deserving of our cheque. We know she’ll put the money to good use to help people who are facing overwhelming odds overcome adversity and lead full and exciting lives. “We are only too happy to show our social conscience in this significant year for us, and to help such a well known charity as Finding Your Feet is an honour.” Anyone wishing to donate to Finding Your Feet, can do so at www.findingyourfeet.net.

Volunteer to be a Fundraising Co-ordinator We are looking for Volunteers: Fundraising Co-ordinators, to join a new and exciting national fundraising network to help raise awareness and funds. The funds raised will support the Huntington’s disease (HD) lifeline services we offer across Scotland at no cost to the families living with HD. You will be part of an inspiring group of fundraisers helping to organise collections, a variety of events and other fundraising and awareness raising activities. You will help promote the work of the charity and encourage others to support Scottish Huntington’s Association within your local community. Outcome/ Benefits to SHA: You support will help increase public awareness of the work of the charity and how Huntington’s disease affects people living with the illness. The fundraising volunteering role will help fund vital services across Scotland and widen our network of support. We will plan together Fundraising activities that offer inclusiveness to families living with HD. Benefit to Volunteer: You will meet new people; Gain valuable professional experience of volunteering to aid employability; Offered free induction and ongoing training; Be part of a supported network developing, planning, organising and running various fundraising events; Claim reasonable travel expenses. Skills/Attitudes Required: No previous experience is required, training, support and guidance will be offered. Good practice and ongoing support.
