.....................................................
At the April meeting of Kilbarchan Community Council,
representatives from Scottish Water were present where they
were rigorously questioned on the long standing problem of
the discharge of the CSO in the village Habbies will be well
aware that this is a problem which has affected parts of
the village for decades and while Scottish Water noted that
many other areas have a similar issue, it is undoubtedly the
case that there are much more frequent episodes with the
Kilbarchan CSO which require special attention.
Consequently all the agencies involved from the Scottish
Government, Renfrewshire Council, SEPA and Scottish
Water all need to redouble their efforts to identify, fund, and
deliver a solution
I will continue to push them to do so it is now nearly 6 months since the price of
oil fell by a half, and I wrote to the bus companies asking them to pass on the
benefits to passengers by reducing fares. Their reason for not doing at the time
was that they buy their fuel in advance
Given that this is the case I have contacted them again to ask if, and when they
intend to reduce fares. We can but hope.
I have also asked the bus companies to review their service provision on
general public holidays .at Easter, on the May holidays, and the September
weekend. At present on these public holidays there is a much reduced service
from weekdays
There are many local people who work on public holidays and families who
enjoy a day out and this puts pressure on the reduced service and on drivers.
Train companies operate a near normal service, and I a am sure an enhanced
bus service on public holidays would be welcomed by passengers
At the most recent meeting of Renfrewshire Councils Procurement Sub
Committee, I was delighted to support and approve a report which will result
in the installation of solar panels at Lochwinnoch Primary School. This is the
latest investment by the administration in the school, following the 423 000
spent on the provision of additional classrooms and electrical work
The work to install the panels will begin at the end of June and will be completed
by the end of the summer holidays. It will help reduce the councils carbon
footprint.
My next surgeries will be on Saturday 6 June at 9am at the McKillop Institute
and 10am at the Steeple Hall.
The 6th June is of course Lilias Day in Kilbarchan and Saturday 13th
Lochwinnoch Gala Day Thanks as always to the hard work of the respective
committees. May the sun shine
Fair Trade Coffee Morning,
Kilbarchan
A successful Fair Trade
coffee morning was
run by the Kilbarchan
Fair Trade Group on 9th
May, in the Steeple Hall,
Kilbarchan. Over sixty
friends and supporters
came along to sample
fairly traded coffee and
tea. A stall run on behalf of Rainbow
Turtle, the developing world’s shop, did
well. Rainbow Turtle is at the junction
of Smithhills Street and Gauze Street,
Paisley and is open Tuesday to Saturday
from 10 a.m. Thanks to Renfrewshire
Council for their support and to Crawford
