Bridge of Weir
Community Council
The Community Council welcomed Chief Inspector Simon Wright, Area
Commander responsible for policing 92 square miles that covers Hillington to
Renfrew the neighbouring villages from Johnstone to south Ayrshire. He stated
that Bridge of Weir is not a high crime area and is a safe place to live and work,
however we should not be complacent and reminded everyone to keep their
premises secure.
The Police have produced guidelines on basic tips for keeping your house safe
and for preventing doorstep crime. These can be accessed on our web site
at www.bridgeofweir.org The previous month’s crime figures include 1 serious
assault in the street, 1 domestic common assault, house breaking where car
keys were taken, 2 acts of vandalism at school play areas and 2 road traffic
offences. The Chief Inspector reported that the procedures established by the
Police for the Community Council were in place.
Visitors attending the meeting had an interest in the Whitelint Gate proposals
and there was lengthy discussion, however there is little the Community Council
can do at this stage until we receive notice of the pre planning consultation
date.
The Planning Convener reported on the recent Planning Democracy Conference
he attended along with the Chairman, it was a worthwhile day and of considerable
benefit for Community Councillors involved in the planning process.
The Community Council has learned Greenlight Renewables UK Ltd has lodged
four planning applications within Ward 10 for screening opinions to establish
if environmental assessments are required for possible solar farms. Screening
opinions are not full planning applications, merely an applicant seeking advice
on the process.
Livery Walk Car park is to undergo resurfacing works, it has not been determined
whether the full area will be included or the driveway only.
A large pile of building rubble has accumulated at the rear of Livery Walk shops
believed from works undertaken on the communal stairway we have demanded
this be removed.
Further updates can be viewed on our Community Council Facebook page.
The council has received a notice that developers intend
to submit a planning application for retail and housing
development at Whitelint Gate in Bridge of Weir. The
proposal is likely to be for 200 houses, a retail development
and a petrol station. If the application is submitted it is likely
to be considered by the full council and not the Planning
Committee. Planning rules mean that individual councillors
cannot express a view – for or against – until the meeting (if
they do they cannot then vote on the application). That said,
I would welcome your views on this matter.
Volunteers from across Bridge of Weir came together to
participate in a community clean-up over the weekend of
9th and 10th May. Despite a soaking (the weather was unkind), it was amazing
to collect so much rubbish in a few hours by a team of dedicated individuals.
Well done and thank you to all involved.
There are ongoing problems with parking in the streets around Bishopton Train
Station. There will be a consultation with residents on possible measures to
improve the situation. The growth of Dargavel means this problem is likely to
get worse in the short term – the additional 150 car park spaces are not likely
to be in place for another year or so.
I was delighted to attend service to mark the 200th Anniversary of Bishopton
Parish Church and to share in their celebrations. The parish has produced a book
outlining the history of the church and the role it has played in the community.
Well worth a read and available from Woodrow’s or from Cornerstone.
Well done to local residents and to Langbank Community Council who are
in discussions with Transport Scotland over safety concerns with the A8
roundabout. Their perseverance with this issue looks like it could bear fruit –
after years of ‘nothing much can be done’ it seems we have the possibility of
action being taken.
