The month of May was an interesting and busy one for
politicians! The high general election turnout was good for
democracy. Thanks to all who voted and particularly to those
who supported my preferred candidates and helped to ring
the changes. I am sure our new MP’s will work hard to justify
the faith you have put in them.
Bridge of Weir Gala Day has as usual taken huge amounts
of planning and organisation and I wish to extend my
congratulations and best wishes to Gordon Lethorn and the
Gala Day Committee.
There has been a problem at Houston Road Park with the
security gates being forced open leaving the park vulnerable
to vehicular vandalism. This restricts the useable area for the youngsters who
use it for football and leaves the council with the expense of re-instating the
churned-up ground. The council is considering a long-term solution to this
problem.
There has been agreement that the ditches on either side of Slateford Road, the
main southern access road to Dargavel, are not satisfactory and arrangements
are going ahead for these to be filled in. The developer has obtained signs
to warn of the unusual shared surface road configuration. However, following
tests they have reported that the lighting columns are not strong enough to
support these, so additional posts will be installed.
The other traffic matter to the fore in Bishopton at present is the issue of parking,
both near the school at drop-off and pick-up times and at the station where
commuter parking is causing inconvenience to local residents. I spoke to Roads
Department officers who arranged to visit both locations. A second crossing
patrol warden on Old Greenock Road has been recommended and parking
restriction options are being considered in Poplar Avenue and Gledstane Road.
Meantime, I would urge drivers to park responsibly before leaving their cars and
to avoid causing restrictions for delivery vehicles and the collection of refuse.
Have a lovely summer! Cllr.maria.brown@renfrewshire.gov.uk
songs at 4pm and then everyone can collect their picnic bag and walk up to The
Glen for lots of fun and games. We plan to go rain or shine this year so bring
your waterproofs and wellies with you if it is raining. If anyone feels they would
have difficulty getting up to The Glen or has any other questions, please call
Catherine on 07980 649377
On Monday 15th June, we will be taking part in the Gala Week celebrations. We
will start at the slightly later time of 5pm and will run until 7pm. For those of you
who have never been, we will be having an hour of craft and games followed by
a talk and songs. We will then all eat together before the end.
Everyone is welcome, young and old. Please come along and enjoy the fun as
well as getting to know other people in the village.
Finally, there will be no Messy Church in July or August but we will be back again
