St Mary’s Church
St Mary’s Festival was a great success! Many people from Bridge of Weir and
surroundings areas came to see the Flower and Art Exhibition and enjoy the
chat and refreshments.
The special events were
very well attended: The
first of these on 6th
September was taking
part in Renfrew’s Doors
Open Day with novel
extra fun of ‘Montse’s
Puppet Showing of
David and Goliath. On
Wednesday evening
there was an Illustrated
talk on Religious Art by the Revd Dr Donald Orr; Friday’s concert with the
talented St Maura’s Singers from the Cathedral of the Isles in Cumbrae and
the final event, an Afternoon Tea with the delightful String Quartet of friends.
St Mary’s clergy and people were very pleased to be joined on the Sunday
Morning for Worship by the Revd Suzanne Dunleavy of St Machar’s Church and
members of the congregation.
St Mary’s are preparing for the next Concert on Monday 9th November at 7.30pm
given by the Russian Choir Voskresenije. They will sing a varied programme of
sacred music and Russian folk songs. Tickets £10 including wine, soft drinks
and savouries. The Car Park is opposite the Church.
Bridge of Weir TARA
The latest meeting of Bridge of Weir Tenants and Residents Association produced
a lively debate on a number of local issues, and we’d like to thank Councillor
Michael Holmes, Andy Summers Amenity Service Manager for Renfrewshire
Council, Police Sergeant Tom Petrie and The Renfrewshire Wardens Service for
their attendance.
The Police report for the village would have shown very little criminal activity for
the passed month, with the theft of shop vouchers from a residence and four
windows smashed at a vacant commercial property, if it was not for a serious
assault which took place in the early hours of Saturday 12th September.
However as this is an ongoing investigation the Police were not at liberty to
discuss it.
TARA are currently surveying street lighting within the village, looking at the
availability of lighting and how easy it is to maintain that lighting. The first area
surveyed {purely because the committee member conducting the survey lives
there} was Old Ranfurly, encompassing Bonar Crescent, Montrose Terrace,
Hazelwood Road, etc.. A staggering sixteen street lights within this area were
found to be unmaintainable as a cherry-picker would not be able to reach the
lights due to trees. The junction between Montrose Terrace and Hazelwood
Road has three street lights, all which are inaccessible. Street lighting is there
for safety and security reasons and it is hoped that landowners be they council,
private or commercial would maintain the trees on their properties so that this
lighting may be accessible.
No fly-tipping signs are to be put up in Livery Walk car park as mattresses, etc.
are still being disposed off at the recycling bins. The uneven curbs in the car
park are to be investigated by the council, who will
then decide on appropriate action.
Charities across Renfrewshire are currently collecting
clothing, toiletries, etc. To help refugees and Bridge of
Weir’s nearest collection point is the Onyx in Linwood.
A consignment of donated goods will be leaving for
Calais on the 25th September.
The next meeting of Bridge of Weir TARA will be on
Tuesday 20th October at 7.30pm in the Pirie Centre
at Freeland Church. So if you’ve got a view on a local
issue why not come along and air your thoughts.
