Birkmyre Gym Refurbishment
The gym opened in June 2008
and we are now refurbishing the
gym with brand new state of the
art Technogym equipment. We are
spending £100,000 on the new
equipment and £1000’s more on
electrical and Wifi installation, deep
cleaning and maintenance works.
It will be a premium site within the
Inverclyde Leisure facilities.
We will have 64 gym stations, digital
platforms, Free weights, Premium
Functional Equipment and State
of the art Cardio and Resistance
equipment. We are also replacing
and extending the flooring in our free
weights area, installing additional
mirrors, painting the gym walls, deep
cleaning the carpets.
The equipment is all connected to
digital platforms which include the
MYWELLNESS facility which allows
users to track, monitor and update
their workouts. Our new cardio
machines will have wifi connectivity
giving users access to TV, Internet,
Facebook as well as being able to have
their programmes set up and stored
onto their own personal accounts.
The equipment can be linked to other
training tools such as MapMyRun,etc.
and the Resistance machines will all
come with Iso-controls.
We aim to encourage and promote
healthy lifestyles by helping the
public get active and enjoy the social,
fun aspect of exercising.
We will be offering a promotion
on our IL Fitness+ memberships
during September and a site specific
promotion at Birkmyre during
October.

Gryffe Girl Captains Scotland
Rugby 7s
Former Gryffe HS pupil Louise McMillan was named as captain of the
Scotland U19 squad that played in the Sainsbury’s School Games in
Manchester at the beginning of September. Louise, pictured scoring a try
against Ireland, led from the front as Scotland
put on their most impressive performance yet as
the schools games with a record tally of points
scored. Louise who was recently selected for
the SRU Academy now plays rugby for Hillhead
in the Ladies Premiership.
Girls and Ladies rugby has had major investment
from the SRU this year with the appointment of
a full time coach to the Ladies team and the
recent announcement of four full time regional
development officers.
Part of the development officers’ role will be
visiting clubs with mini rugby such as Birkmyre
to identify potential stars of ladies rugby in
years to come, and to help clubs build girls U15
and U18 squads.
Strathgryffe Tennis Club Championship Finals Day
The poor weather on Saturday 12th September did not stop play at Strathgryffe for Finals Day. All 4 indoor courts were
in action to get 22 of the 24 finals completed.
Gents Club Champion for the third year in a row is eighteen year old Lee Wishart who beat his brother Robbie in the
final. Lee also went on to win the 18 & under Boys Singles, Open Gents Doubles with Glen Smyth and the Open Mixed
Doubles with Katherine McPhie.
The Junior Prize-giving took place on Saturday, but the senior events will be awarded at the Annual Club Dinner on
Friday 30th October. The Autumn Coaching Programme for both tennis & squash is now available. Non members are
