In 2006, HBO began to produce documentaries in <strong>Poland</strong>, some<br />
of which have been awarded at various film festivals, among them<br />
Marcin Koszałka and Jacek Bławut. Encouraged by this success,<br />
the station has already announced a number of promising<br />
documentary projects. HBO also supports the Krakow <strong>Film</strong><br />

Television Kino Polska is the only TV channel focusing on Polish<br />
films and the first private TV broadcaster financed entirely by<br />
Polish capital. The station broadcasts Polish feature films,<br />
documentaries and animated films, newsreels, independent<br />
prod<strong>uction</strong>s, as well as programmes on filmmakers and the film<br />

Telewizja Polska SA (TVP) is a state-owned company and by law<br />
the only public TV broadcaster in <strong>Poland</strong>. It consists of the<br />
following channels: TVP1 (Jedynka) – addressed to the general<br />
public; TVP2 (Dwójka) – culture and entertainment; and TVP Info,<br />
with programmes prepared locally; TV Polonia – a satellite channel<br />
broadcasting programmes for Poles living abroad; TVP Kultura –<br />
a channel on general cultural issues; and finally TVP Historia and<br />
TVP Sport. In the nearest future, the broadcaster plans to launch<br />
other channels, i.e. TVP <strong>Film</strong> and TVP Dokument. Telewizja Polska<br />
SA is the largest film producer in <strong>Poland</strong>; the agency responsible<br />
for film prod<strong>uction</strong> in TVP is the TVP SA <strong>Film</strong> Agency; the Office<br />
for International Co-operation is responsible for co-prod<strong>uction</strong><br />
projects. However, some prod<strong>uction</strong>s are undertaken directly by<br />
particular channels, i.e. TVP1 or TVP2.<br />

The departments of the public television broadcaster deal mainly<br />
with the prod<strong>uction</strong> of feature films and series and sometimes<br />
documentaries. The largest producer in <strong>Poland</strong> undertakes<br />
approximately 30 prod<strong>uction</strong>s annually. In 2006, the Agency<br />
produced 28 feature film projects; in 2007 − 16, including Time<br />
to Die by Dorota K´dzierzawska, The Magic Tree by Andrzej<br />
Maleszka, Tricks by Andrzej Jakimowski and All Will Be Well by<br />
Tomasz Wiszniewski. It is also involved in the short film project<br />
(approx. 30 minutes) the aim of which is to promote debuts of<br />
young and aspiring directors.<br />
