Cinema City is the largest network of multiplex cinemas in Central<br />

and Eastern Europe. The company develops this network under<br />

two trade marks – Cinema City and IMAX ® , in <strong>Poland</strong>, the Czech<br />

Republic, Hungary and Bulgaria. The corporation manages 508<br />

screening rooms in 61 multiplex cinemas. In Europe, the network<br />

owns 40 multiplexes with a total of 388 screening rooms. In<br />

addition, the company runs seven 3D IMAX ® cinemas.<br />

Between June 2004 and June 2006, Cinema City opened 11<br />

multiplexes (including 3 IMAX ® ). Most newly opened cinemas are<br />

located in <strong>Poland</strong>, which has recently become the major market<br />

for the chain. Cinema City has venues in the following cities:<br />

Warsaw, Krakow, Wroc∏aw, Ruda Âlàska, Poznaƒ, ¸ódê, Gdaƒsk,<br />

Katowice, Toruƒ, Płock, Lublin, Rybnik and Cz´stochowa, with<br />

plans to open new multiplexes in other cities.<br />

Aside from box-office receipts, the company generates profit from<br />

film distribution (Disney pictures), advertising and properties.<br />

Cinema City recently acquired the Kinepolis cinema in Poznaƒ, the<br />

largest multiplex in Europe in terms of area (56,000 sq. m).<br />

Kinepolis has 18 screening rooms with a total of 7,500 seats.<br />

The Helios <strong>Film</strong> Centre is a network of cinemas established in<br />

1993 based on the cinemas located in Łódê. In 2006 the<br />

company managed 13 cinemas (a total of 50 screening rooms,<br />

with 13,500 seats, in 11 cities in <strong>Poland</strong>); the network includes:<br />

* 40 screening rooms in multiplexes with an average number<br />

of 260 seats per room;<br />

* 10 screens in traditional cinemas;<br />

with plans to open new complexes (e.g. in Wrocław, Białystok, and<br />

Poznaƒ).<br />

In 2007 Helios acquired 100% shares in another cinema<br />

company, the Warsaw-based Kinoplex. As a result of this merger,<br />

Helios now holds 23% of the multiplex market and is one of the<br />

top three cinema chains in <strong>Poland</strong>. Currently the company<br />

manages 18 cinemas, with a total of 85 screens and over 20,000<br />

seats in 17 cities throughout <strong>Poland</strong>, including. Gniezno, Kalisz,<br />

Katowice, Konin, Łódê (two cinemas), Olsztyn, Piotrków<br />

Trybunalski, Radom, Rzeszów, Sosnowiec, Szczecin and<br />

Włocławek. The Helios SA company co-operates closely with the<br />

largest distribution companies, e.g. UIP, ITI, Warner Bros, SPI,<br />

Imperial CinePix, and Forum <strong>Film</strong>.<br />

The Multikino Sp. z o.o. company was established in 1996 as<br />

a joint venture of two partners: UCI – one of the world’s leading<br />

multiplex operators and the ITI Group – the leader on the Polish<br />

media market. The company develops and manages a network of<br />

multiplex cinemas with total number of 130 screening rooms. The<br />

first Multikono multiplex, with 8 screening rooms was opened in<br />

Poznaƒ in 1998. Then multiplexes in Warsaw, Zabrze, Gdaƒsk,<br />

Krakow, Bydgoszcz, Szczecin, Elblàg and Rybnik followed.<br />

Multikino also organizes concerts, cabaret shows, live broadcasting<br />

for sport events on large screens and various special events, e.g.<br />

for mothers with children. Multikino has two cinemas equipped<br />

with digital projectors and digital 3D technology - one in Warsaw<br />

(Złote Tarasy) and one in Poznaƒ (Stary Browar).<br />
