Since 2006, the Foundation has organized a training program for<br />

scriptwriters from Eastern and Central Europe called ScripTeast.<br />

Since 1999 the Independent <strong>Film</strong> Foundation has organized the<br />

annual ceremony of Polish <strong>Film</strong> Awards “Or∏y” (The Eagles). It<br />

also runs the Polish <strong>Film</strong> Academy, which gathers all active Polish<br />

filmmakers. Members of the Academy, in a two-stage balloting<br />

process, select the nominees and then winners of the Eagles.<br />

Over the past three years, the Foundation organized the Polish<br />

presentation in Polish-Czech-Slovak pavilion at the International<br />

<strong>Film</strong> Festival in Cannes. The Foundation is also involved in coorganizing<br />

international meetings and conferences.<br />

The founder of Independent <strong>Film</strong> Foundation is Dariusz Jab∏oƒski,<br />

film director and producer, member of the European <strong>Film</strong><br />

The Foundation was established jointly by the Association of<br />

Polish <strong>Film</strong>makers, the City of Gdynia and the Pomorskie<br />

Voivodship with the aim to promote film culture, particularly at the<br />

Polish <strong>Film</strong> Festival in Gdynia.<br />

Silesia <strong>Film</strong> is a regional cultural organization promoting and<br />

distributing film and film culture, with a particular focus on the<br />

Silesian Voivodship. The institution runs 7 cinemas, maintains the<br />

Silesian <strong>Film</strong> Archives, rents cinema equipments and documents<br />

film-related events taking place in the region. In 2006, the Silesia<br />

<strong>Film</strong> established the <strong>Film</strong> Arts Centre in Katowice – a modern<br />

centre for the promotion of the film culture.<br />

The Association organizes the Summer <strong>Film</strong> Academy in<br />

Zwierzyniec – an international and Polish film festival accompanied<br />

by numerous seminars and discussion panels, particularly for the<br />

young audience.<br />

The main mission of the Association is to promote all form of arts<br />

and their distribution, mainly by organizing film festivals, events<br />

and special screenings. The main event organized by the<br />

The Warsaw <strong>Film</strong> Foundation is the main organizer of the Warsaw<br />

<strong>Film</strong> Festival. In 2006, the Foundation was the key partner of the<br />

European <strong>Film</strong> Academy in organizing the ceremony of the<br />

European <strong>Film</strong> Awards. The Foundation also played a leading role<br />

in establishing the Association of <strong>Film</strong> Festivals in Central and<br />

Eastern Europe – CentEast; this association has become a cooperation<br />

framework for 16 key film festivals organized across the<br />

region. Furthermore, the Warsaw <strong>Film</strong> Foundation organizes the<br />

CentEast Regional <strong>Film</strong> Fair, which accompanies the Warsaw <strong>Film</strong><br />

Festival. The Foundation also undertakes activities focusing on the<br />

promotion of Polish film prod<strong>uction</strong>s abroad.<br />

Currently the Warsaw <strong>Film</strong> Foundation is chaired by Ewa<br />

Wi´ckowska-Mi´tkiewicz and her deputy is Stefan Laudyn, the<br />

director of the Warsaw <strong>Film</strong> Festival.<br />
