New Film Law
On 30 June 2005, the Polish parliament passed the Act on
Cinematography, thus setting the new Film Law in Poland. Two
months later the Polish Film Institute was established. As an
instrument of State policy regarding the film industry, the Polish
Film Institute focuses primarily on financial support to all areas
related directly to film.

The prime source of financing film production in Poland
introduced by the new Film Law is a 1.5% levy on revenue from
cinemas, VHS and DVD sales, television advertising, and cable/satellite
television platforms. Additional sources include lottery funding and
government subsidies. The total annual budget of the Polish Film
Institute is approximately 107 million PLN (28 million EUR).
