New <strong>Film</strong> Law<br />

On 30 June 2005, the Polish parliament passed the Act on<br />

Cinematography, thus setting the new <strong>Film</strong> Law in <strong>Poland</strong>. Two<br />

months later the Polish <strong>Film</strong> Institute was established. As an<br />

instrument of State policy regarding the film industry, the Polish<br />

<strong>Film</strong> Institute focuses primarily on financial support to all areas<br />

related directly to film.<br />

Sources of Financing for the Polish <strong>Film</strong> Institute:<br />

2007<br />

The prime source of financing film prod<strong>uction</strong> in <strong>Poland</strong><br />

introduced by the new <strong>Film</strong> Law is a 1.5% levy on revenue from<br />

cinemas, VHS and DVD sales, television advertising, and cable/satellite<br />

television platforms. Additional sources include lottery funding and<br />

government subsidies. The total annual budget of the Polish <strong>Film</strong><br />

Institute is approximately 107 million PLN (28 million EUR).<br />
