Generic Theatre Standard No 27 - Photography and Video<br />
Standard Statement: Staff will ensure that prior to any photographs are taken or video equipment<br />
is used, the appropriate consent has been obtained.<br />

Method:<br />
• Patients have the right to refuse permission for any photographs to be taken, or any<br />
video equipment to be used during their surgery.<br />
• It is essential that anyone wishing to use photographic or video equipment has<br />
obtained the necessary permission from the patient prior to their use.<br />
• Any photographs taken of patients are the copyright of the Secretary of State for Health<br />
and may only be used subsequently if further permission is gained from the patient.<br />
• When outside agencies have been given permission to film or photograph within the<br />
operating department, staff should be reminded of their role in patient advocacy and<br />
standards of professional conduct.<br />
• Media personnel should not be permitted into the Perioperative Environment without<br />
the Trust Executive permission.<br />
• The use of personal devices for recording patient images is strictly forbidden<br />
