Mitsubishi Motors Cup
Riders in the BE90
Rebecca Hart,
Fritchley,
Derbyshire
33 year old Rebecca
has qualified for the
BE90 section. This
is her first time competing in the
competition and will be riding her
10 year old, 15hh Irish horse called
I’ve Been Mangoed or at home he is
called Mango! Rebecca is a vet who
works nights in an emergency clinic
in the centre of Nottingham and is
currently renovating her property
and building a stable block. This year
is also very exciting for her as she is
getting married in July. Rebecca and
Mango had a successful start to the
season competing at Oasby BE at the
beginning of March finishing tenth.
SARAH FAWCETT,
Skipton, Yorkshire
Sarah Fawcett and
her seven-year-old
ex racehorse, Actor
will be competing
the BE90 section for the first time in
May. The combination qualified at
Skipton BE Horse Trials in August
last year and have been eventing for
three years. Their favourite discipline
is the cross country and will be
spending the last few weeks leading
up to the competition working on
their fitness and dressage. For four
months of the year Actor has to
have his shoes taken off as he has
poor hoof quality, he then has a set
of plastic shoes that he wears for
the event season, this works well to
keep him sound and happy. Sarah
juggles her eventing around job
as a Sonographer and has her own
business supplying medical staff to
hospitals. Sarah plans to compete at
Breckenbrough BE90 in April and will
be joined by her husband and parents
when she travels to the Mitsubishi
Motors Cup in May.
HOLLY LEMKE, Scarborough,
Yorkshire
Holly has qualified for the BE90
section on her nine year old horse
called Last Apache also known as
Patch. The pair qualified at Weston
Park BE in October with a fantastic
dressage score of 23. It will be
Holly’s first time competing in the
Mitsubishi Motors Cup. During the
winter Holly and Patch have been
working on their showjumping and
Patch’s fitness, which is something
Holly is conscious of, luckily they
are close to a beach which has been
an excellent way to improve his
cross country speed and stamina.
In addition to training, Holly has
gained valuable advice from equine
nutritionists at Dodson & Horrell
who have advised that she feeds
Patch the Staypower Muesli which
has made a real difference. Holly will
be joined by her supportive partner,
mum, sister and her husband to the
competition and is looking forward
to experiencing the atmosphere at
Badminton.
KATHRYN
WOOLLEY,
Lincolnshire
Based in Ingham,
Lincolnshire,
Kathryn Woolley
(29) has qualified for the BE90
section on her nine year old Newport
Arch (Archie) who she has owned for
a year. This will be Kathryn’s second
time competing in the Mitsubishi
Motors Cup and hopes that Archie,
who is particularly strong in the
cross country phase, will take on the
challenge and take everything in his
stride. Kathryn works full time for
event rider Alex Postolowsky which
has been a great help to her progress.
Archie has had a quiet winter due
to the horsebox being sold which
fitted in well as in December Kathryn
got married. In preparation for the
Mitsubishi Motors Cup, Kathryn will
be taking Archie to as many dressage
competitions in the run up to the
event in order to get him used to the
atmosphere at Badminton. Archie
is quite a celebrity and will have his
own support team coming to the
Mitsubishi Motors Cup in the form
of his previous owner who used to
race him in his early years. Despite
a quiet winter, the combination
competed at Oasby BE in early March
and won their BE90 section!
VICKI FAHEY,
Thirsk, Yorkshire
Vicki has
qualified for the
BE90 section
for the first
time and will be
riding her 12 year old daughter’s 11
year old black sport pony called I
Blame Bertie. After hanging up her
eventing boots at an early age, Vicki
decided to start eventing last year
and her progress with Bertie, who is
her daughter’s Pony Club horse, has
exceeded all her expectations. Bertie,
who is 15hh, and Vicki have spent
most of the winter competing at
Combined Training and working on
all phases. Vicki will be making the
five hour journey to Badminton on
her birthday, Monday 1 May and will
be joined by her daughter Niamh,
trainer Carole Dennis, her parents
and supportive friends. Preparations
for the competition are going well
after competing in the BE90 at
Epworth BE and winning her section
on their fantastic dressage score of
22.3!
