Automatic Difference Detection between Similar
Scenes Captured in Non-Identical Images

Abstract
Spot the Difference type puzzles
are problems where two similar
images are to be compared, and
the object of the puzzle is to locate
all of the differences between
the two photos. Trivial versions of
these problems can be solved automatically
with little effort.
However, a nontrivial puzzle has
too much noise to solve in such a
simple manner. In this paper, a
method for automatically solving
nontrivial versions of these puzzles
will be presented. The strategy
proposed involves using color
grouping and edge detection algorithms
to break both images into
component pieces, and creating a
list describing the objects and
their locations on each image.
These lists can then be compared,
thus identifying the differences.
