Waikato Region’s top
builds announced
A Taumarunui home and a Hamilton
renovation have been announced as this
year’s finest Waikato homes, winning Supreme
Awards in the Waikato Registered Master
Builders 2016 House of the Year competition.
Sloan Annand Builder won
four regional awards with their
Taumarunui home, including
the Waikato Registered
Master Builders 2016 Supreme
House of the Year, a Gold
Award, Category win for the
Carters New Home $1 million
- $2 million Award, and the
Craftsmanship Award.
John S Macdonald Builders
Limited was awarded the
Waikato Registered Master
Builders 2016 Supreme
Renovation of the Year, a Gold
Award and Category win for
the Renovation Award over
$500,000.
Judges called the winning
House of the Year “simply amazing,”
from its classic and simplistic
design through to its fantastic
craftsmanship in every respect.
“The mix of external materials,
from the plaster to the
vertical timber and stonework,
has been applied in a manner
that is effective yet un-fussy.
“Built on the slopes of
Taumaranui, this home sits
comfortably in its environment
taking full advantage of
the views over the town and
beyond.
“Designed on two levels,
the main living areas sit on the
upper floor, accessed from the
road. The bottom level comprises
guest bedrooms making
it ideal when extended family
come to stay.
“Timbers sourced from the
family farm have been cleverly
used in the interior design
including ceilings, feature
doors and built-in cabinetry.
The crafting of this timber work
is of an exceptional standard
and makes the home stand out
from others in the category.”
Judges called the winning
renovation a deserving winner
of the Supreme award.
“What was once a stately
old home in Auckland has
been transported to a unique,
rural Waikato property.
“A major makeover has created
a majestic home of grand
proportions. The builder has
adapted well to the demands of
this project, using a combination
of modern technology and
good old-fashioned craftsmanship
to transform this home.”
The results of the regional
competition were revealed at
a gala dinner on 22 July at the
Claudelands Events Centre in
Hamilton.
The winning builds were
celebrated by members of the
Waikato Registered Master
Builders Association and
members of the local construction
industry.
There were 16 Gold Award
winners from Waikato which
will now be ranked against Gold
Award winners from around the
country to find the National
Gold Reserve finalists.
National category winners
and the Registered Master
Builders Supreme Awards for
the 2016 House of the Year and
Renovation of the Year will be
announced at a gala dinner on
26 November at The Langham
in Auckland.
The awards are made possible
through the support of
