Centerville High School Alma Mater
There’s an Alma Mater close to us
Where our hearts may ever rest
And our loyalty will always be
With dear old C.H.S.
For her halls are filled with memories
Of the cherished joys we knew
And to you our dearest Centerville
We always will be true.
We would like to welcome all of you to the
Centerville City School District where athletics
serves as yet another tool to prepare our students
to excel in life when their high school experience
ends. We pride ourselves in partnering with our
athletes to help them always compete with a sense
of humility, embrace and respond to adversity in
an appropriate manner and continuously strive to
achieve excellence.
These are very exciting times in the
Centerville School District for Athletics with recent
facility upgrades to our Training Room, Weight
Room, Legacy Field at Alumni Stadium where the
Elks play soccer lacrosse, Centerville Stadium,
the Main Gymnasium, and the Tennis Courts.
These improvements were made possible by
the tremendous support we receive from the
Centerville Community and I want to personally
thank all of you for your continued and unwavering
support.
We are proud members of the Greater
Western Ohio Conference and this past school
year won the GWOC Central Division All-Sports
trophy for the fifteenth consecutive year.
You can follow Centerville Athletics on
Twitter @chselksad. We are very proud of the
excellent athletic programs we have here in
Centerville, but we are most proud of how our
coaches and student-athletes represent our
school and our community.
Greetings from the
GWOC Commissioner
Greetings! On behalf of the Greater Western Ohio Conference I would like to welcome
you to the 2016-17 Athletic Year. The participants have spent countless hours preparing
for the season and are thrilled to have you in attendance. For many, it is your show of
support that drives them to excel and wills them to compete.
This is a year of change for the GWOC as we add new schools and new divisions. We
welcome Stebbins and Tippecanoe to the GWOC. They are excellent additions that bring
with them outstanding schools and community support. We are also excited for our new
divisional setup. The East and West divisions will represent the National League while the
North and South divisions will represent the American League. This new setup allows us
to meet the needs of our membership and further solidifies the GWOC as a conference that
continues to raise the bar for interscholastic athletics.
The GWOC has become the tie that binds our communities and over the years our member
schools have become an extended family. The genuine concern for all member schools
shown by GWOC administrators, coaches, athletes, and fans is unparalleled. It is that
show of support that differentiates us and makes being a member of the GWOC unique and
special. Nothing compares to the experience of being a competitor, or fan, of the Greater
Western Ohio Conference. There is an unmistakable sense of pride, and belonging, that we
all feel as members of the GWOC family.
2017 Boys Volleyball
Reflections and Goals
The Elks look to once again defend their regional
championship and compete in the Ohio High
School Boys Volleyball State Tournament in
Columbus!
The 2016 Boys Volleyball Team completed the
program’s twenty-eighth season with a 19-9 record
and a final four finish in the state playoffs. Five Elks
were named to West Region honors-Seniors Sam
Schindler and Alex Harrison to First Team, senior
Aaron Klaus and junior Ben Chico to Second Team,
and Senior Athan Abuyuan to Honorable Mention.
Sam Schindler was additionally honored as the
West Region Player of the Year for the second
year in a row! All-State honors were also conferred
upon Sam Schindler (First Team) and Alex Harrison
(Second Team). Honors in the Western Ohio Boys
Volleyball Conference went to Sam Schindler for
Conference Player of the Year and 1st team, Alex
Harrison for 1st team, Ben Chico, Joshua Kimbrell,
and Aaron Klaus for 2nd team, and Troy Brewer for
Honorable Mention.
This season promises to be another exciting one
for the Elks as the team is ready to continue the
strong tradition of success. The 2017 team returns
five varsity players from last year’s squad. This
year’s players include Seniors Troy Brewer, Ben
Chico, Corey Dunham, and Josh Kimbrell, Kyle
Mikesell, Andrew Sucato, and Thomas Lamon;
Juniors Adam Skerl, Andrew Brothers, Mark
Villers, Brendan Beale, Andrew Warner, and Carter
Holbrook. Many of these players spent the offseason
training and playing on club teams to hone
their skills. They are ready for the challenges of the
2017 season.
The Elks will again play a very aggressive
schedule against many of the top ranked teams
from the Dayton area and across Ohio. On April
29th, Centerville will again host the Elite Eight
Tournament at Centerville High School. Teams in
this year’s tournament include St. Xavier, Moeller,
Elder, Beavercreek, Cleveland St. Ignatius, Hilliard
Darby, and Westerville South. All these teams
will be very competitive as they make their bid to
compete in the end of season state tournament.
The regular season will wind down Senior Night
on May 17th against Carroll. Regional postseason
play commences the week of May 22nd at
Northmont High School, culminating with regional
finals on Saturday, May 27th.
Great things await the boys’ volleyball program
this season as all the teams strive to uphold the
program’s strong tradition of excellence. The team
looks forward to an exciting year as the players
write their own chapter in the history of Elks
Volleyball with their sights set on the opportunity
to play for the state championship. Please come
out and join the team for another season of thrilling
play.
Sports Medicine
The sports medicine program at Centerville High School allows our students to gain valuable handson
experience with our athletes. Students in this program volunteer in the athletic training room
under the guidance of our full-time trainers. They take care of the basic needs of practice, game,
and competition preparations for the athletes. Each student is assigned to one sport and follows
that team to home and away games.
“Victory is the child of preparation and determination.”
They’ll notice your
great haircut.
You’ll appreciate
the great savings.
Elk football players prepare for the fall season
by conditioning and hard work throughout the
off-season. Their summer ends with
Two-A-Days that test every player’s mettle and
commitment. It is that effort that goes into
every practice, every conditioning session,
and every game.
Part of that preparation includes proper
nutrition. The team eats hearty meals every day
during the rigorous Two-A-Day sessions made
possible by the Centerville Football Mothers
Club and local businesses. We all say a big
THANK YOU to all of these generous moms
and businesses for their part in preparing our
team for a successful season!
