Words of Yesteryear
As time goes on, some words
aren’t used as much. Have you
used any of these as defined?...
levy = a body of enlisted
troops
lief = as happily; as gladly
like enough = probably
loathly = repulsive
lordling = a minor lord
love apple = a tomato
Lucifer = a match (fire kind)
lurdan = an idle or
incompetent person
lying-in = seclusion before
and after childbirth
magdalen = a reformed
prostitute
mage = a magician or learned
person
magnify = glorify; extol
maid = a girl or young
woman
malapert = presumptuous
and impudent
malison = a curse
man-at-arms = a soldier
marry = an expression of
surprise, indignation, or
emphatic assertion
mayhap = perhaps; possibly
mazed = bewildered
measure = a dance
meat = food of any kind
mechanical = a manual
meet = suitable or proper
melodist = a singer
methinks = it seems to me
moil = drudgery
From The Editor
I guess it’s just me getting
older, but seems like nothing
is made to last anymore.
There are products
that come out all the time
that it used to be, you
would have for 20yrs or so
and now you would be
lucky to get 5yrs of service
from it. Part of it I think is
the manufacturers know
that Americans are a
wasteful people and would
rather throw away and buy
new than to try to fix what
they have. Sometimes the
cost of a repair may not be
justifiable, but in many
cases it is.
I can remember the times
of TV repair shops. If you
saw the inside
of a
tube TV, you
would see a
menagerie
of wires,
transistors,
capacitors, &
Tom Tyler
Editor
maybe tubes on the older
ones. But I worked on a flat
panel TV a couple years
back and it only had 2 circuit
boards inside. That
was it. 1 board was bad
and I replaced it for $100.
Worth it. I’m no expert, so
research and be safe if trying
to repair electronics.

Memorial Day, May 29th, is a federal holiday in the United States for
remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed
forces. Observed every year on the last Monday of May, it originated
as Decoration Day after the American Civil War in 1868. Memorial
Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day (November 11th); Memorial
Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died
while serving, while Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S.
military veterans.
For the tenth time he
stood before the judge and
pled guilty to the charge of
burglary.
“What’s your trouble?”
asked the judge.
“Sir,” answered the man,
“I was born wrong.”
Weren’t we all! That’s why
our Lord said, “You must be
born again.”
When you’re born the first
time, you become a member
of the human family. When
you’re born the second time,
you alone make the decision.
Wouldn’t you like to begin
life all over again, with a pardon
for the past and a power
for the present to live a
beautiful, happy, victorious
life?
Then receive Jesus now,
won’t you?
Why Don’t We Pray?
1. They do not believe.
The unsaved person does not believe. He cannot pray.
The doubting person does not believe. He doubts the
promises of God. Even good Christians sometimes
doubt.
2. Man is impatient.
He thinks God Is too slow. He takes things in his own
hands. But we need to be ·patient. pray and wait! Wait!
I have seen answers to prayers days, months, and even
years after they were offered. David admonishes, “Rest
in the LORD, and wait patiently for him” (Ps. 37:7).
3. Men are ignorant and blind to the promises of God.
There are 32,000 promises in the Bible. They are yours;
they are mine! Great Christians believe the promises.
One promise Jesus made was, “I will never leave thee,
nor forsake thee”. (Heb. 13:5).
4. Man is ungrateful (and forgetful)!
God answers prayers, but we don’t thank Him. We go
on our way-ungrateful. Ingratitude will sever the prayer
line. Remember His blessings; then express your
gratitude.
5. Men don’t pray because of pride.
Oh, the proud hearts of men! “Pride goeth before
destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall,” says
Proverbs 16:18.
All believers should pray and say that they do! The
president, the king, the millionaire, the pauper-all should
pray and believe God!
That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of
men, but in the power of God. I Cor. 2:5

puzzle is a 9-by-9 grid of squares divided into Crab Orchard to meet various lifestyle needs for price
conscious motorists. The brand’s available
nine 3-by-3 square blocks, with some of the
summer tire line-up consists of three patterns,
squares filled in for you. The object is to fill in
each one for the performance, Laufenn S FIT EQ,
the touring Laufenn G FIT EQ and the
the blank squares in such a way that each
Van-segment Laufenn X FIT VAN.
of the numbers1 to 9 appears exactly
once in each row, column, and block.
If the puzzle has been constructed properly,
there should be only one way to complete the
diagram within the rules of the game.
Despite this apparent simplicity,
solving some sudoku puzzles
can be complicated indeed.
God seems to appear when we
least expect Him. He certainly
will not be confined within the
walls of a church or restrained
within the rituals of a religion.
He is, after all , God the
Creator, Sustainer and Savior.
He makes Himself known
when and where and as He
pleases.
Once, during the transatlantic
crossing of a large ocean liner
a major storm erupted,
breaking the silence of calm
seas. A huge wave swept over
the bow of the ship and swept
a sailor into the raging waters.
His cry for help went unheard.
But in Philadelphia his
Christian mother, who was
sound asleep, suddenly awoke
with an urgent desire to pray
for him. Even though she was
not aware of what had
happened or his threatening
situation, she prayed for his
safety with urgency and
intensity. She then returned to
bed and fell asleep with peace
in her heart.
Weeks later her son returned
home, opened the door and
shouted, “Mother, I’m saved!”
Then he described what had
happened: how he had been
swept overboard. As he was
sinking in the swirling waves
he remembered thinking , “ I’m
lost forever!” He remembered
a hymn he once sang in church
about looking to Jesus to be
saved. He cried out, “0 God, I
look to Jesus to be saved,” and
another wave swept him back
onto the ship.
When he finished his story,
his mother told her story. They
then thanked God for the storm
that saved his soul. As the
Psalmist wrote, “Pursue them
with Your tempest and terrify
them with your storm.” Our
God is amazing.
