Another Great Season for
AARP Tax Volunteers
Volunteers in the AARP Tax Aide Program prepared more
than 750 free income tax returns at our Sun City Summerlin
location. Congratulations and a special thank you to all the
volunteers who contributed their time here and in other locations
in Las Vegas: Janice Cofrancesco, Barbara Jones, Dan
Heidemann, James Kuehl, Joseph Tao, Mike Sanders, Victor
Huang, Linda Heidermann, John Novicky, Charles Updegrove,
Harvey Cohen, Peter and Helen Lieu, Jason Braun,
Angie Braun, Diane Sanders, Tiffany Roby, Linda LeFebvre
and Anne McKee. Special thanks go to the Link for publicity,
Sun City Community Services for providing the space
for the program, the Mountain Shadows social monitors for
their time and effort to arrange all the appointments and to
the custodians for a great job arranging the facilities for us.

Hold Office Hours
Newly elected Nevada State Assemblyman
Jim Marchant will begin
office hours in Sun City this month
on June 17, 10 a.m. to noon, Desert
Vista, Room 3. e lawmaker will
continue to hold office hours at the same time on the third
Saturday of every month. e event is not intended to be a
campaign stop, rather, it is for residents seeking assistance
with a number of day-to-day social service issues.

How Age Matters in Sun City
“Even though many new residents are in the younger age
brackets, the average age has remained virtually the same,”
said longtime BOD member Ken Caroccia. In fact, compared
to the membership in 2008, Sun City’s current membership
is only 2 years older even though nine years has
passed. How is that possible? The answer points to how
many of us are living longer.

Notice the trend: In the past nine years, the number of residents
in the 95-100 age bracket has increased more
than 400 percent. Where we only had three residents
over 100 in 2008, we now have 20, a 700 percent
increase. The same could be said of the 85 to 95 brackets,
where there has been significant increases.
Throughout the years, the ratio of men to women has
remained constant – 45 to 55 percent. Similarly, the average
age of our male population has consistently been two
years older than our women, 77 versus 75, today. In 2008,
it was 74 versus 72.
