Tuesday, June 27th Read - Numbers 32:16-31 • Promises are kept and promises are broken. A promise made to me was: It was kept It was broken Numbers 32:16-19 • When I make a promise: I am vague. If I am not too specific, then it is easier to get out of it without being held responsible I am clear about what I actually will or will not do • Do I consider whether or not I am really able to keep a promise before I make it? Yes Numbers 32:20-22 No • When I keep a promise to someone, it proves I am trustworthy. There is safety in that relationship. A promise that I made, but still need to keep, is: • Keeping a promise can benefit me in the following way: "We must not promise what we ought not, lest we be called on to perform what we cannot." - Abraham Lincoln Numbers 32:23 • Is purposefully refusing to keep a promise wrong? Yes No • Breaking a promise hurts not only the person who was promised something, but me as well. How have I been burned by a broken promise? Numbers 32:24-27 • When I make a promise, sometimes I have to: Numbers 32:28-31 put my wants second until I keep the promise I made go out of my way to help the person to whom I made that promise do both of these things • Witnesses to a promise can help people remember and follow through in keeping their word. Who is someone that holds me to a promise that I made?
Wednesday, June 28th Read - Numbers 35:9-25 • Have I heard someone say, "It's a matter of life and death"? This phrase is primarily used to show the importance of a matter. My choices and actions may not all be life and death, but some could get pretty close. Numbers 35:9-13 • The cities of refuge were to be part of the justice system of Israel provided by God. One way God has provided refuge and safety for me is: • We do not have cities of refuge today, but God still has a plan to deal with the life and death matter of sin. I have accepted God's plan to deal with my sin: admitting I am a sinner, believing in what Christ has done to pay for my sin, and calling on God for removal of judgement for my sin. I am not sure I understand God's plan about this. I will talk to someone about it I haven't accepted God's plan to deal with my sin but will do that now Jesus said, " I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." - John 10:10 Numbers 35:14-15 •God's refuge was not just for the Israelites, but for anyone who sought it. Do I ever pick and choose who to tell about Jesus and His offer of refuge from sin? Yes No Numbers 35:16-21 •God values life. He clearly indicates that taking another person's life purposefully is wrong and has consequences. Some ways human life is not valued in the world around me are: •Does the media I consume most often promote the value of life, or death and violence? Glorifies death 1 2 3 4 5 Values Life Numbers 35:22-23 • There is a big difference between an accident and a purposeful choice to do wrong. Most recently, an accidental mistake on my part was: Numbers 35:24-25 • Even accidents have unintended consequences. One way God has shown grace to me is:
