Love, Auntie: Scientist
and engineer, Lauren
Giulio, knows she
cannot ignore her inner
voice anymore. Lauren
is determined to unravel
the mystery surrounding
her deceased father’s
childhood and uncover
the events that lured
both her father and her
down a path contrary
to cultural and social
attitudes. Lauren travels
to her father’s home in
Panni, Italy, with the
hope of finding answers.
As strange coincidences
begin to make sense,
Lauren soon realizes
that she is being guided
by other loving forces in
her quest for answers. In
finding these answers,
Lauren is able to break
down the cultural and
gender barriers that
existed for women,
and passes her father’s
legacy on to her greatniece
Caroline. Thanks
to the strides made by
Lauren and woman of
her generation, today’s
RELIEVING RED EYES
We have all experienced red eyes as a result of windy conditions, reading
a book late into the night, or spending too much time in front of a computer
screen. Reddening of the white (sclera) of the eye is caused by the swelling
of tiny blood vessels. Most cases of mild to moderate red eyes can be easily
remedied with over-the-counter eye drops. These products may include
“naphazoline,” which is a decongestant that can treat redness caused by
allergic reactions and minor irritation. “Tetrahydrozoline” is another decongestant
that also clears redness caused by allergy, irritation, and exhaustion.
In addition, eye lubricant drops are available that use “lipids” to mimic real
tears. Preservative-free eye lubricant drops are generally preferred.
If you regularly experience red, irritated eyes, you may need to think
beyond quick fixes. There are a few lifestyle changes that may relieve your
symptoms. You should also talk to your doctor if the problem persists. At
VILLAGE PHARMACY, we monitor the medicines you’re taking, including
over the counter therapeutics, to prevent possible harmful interactions. For
more information, please call 781-334-3133. We are located in the Colonial
Shopping Center.
HINT: People with glaucoma should avoid over-the-counter eye remedies
because some eye drops can increase inner eye (intraocular) pressure.
