GIRLS BASKETBALL
Adam DeBaggis - Bishop Fenwick - Coach of the Year
No postseason, no problem for Bishop Fenwick and head coach Adam DeBaggis. Despite the MIAA’s all-sport suspension of Fenwick athletic programs,
it didn’t slow down the Lady Crusaders, who finished the season with three Catholic Central All-Stars, a Comcast Tournament Championship, 17-3
record, and two wins against traditional archrival St. Mary’s.
Katrina Fortes
KIPP
(Senior)
The forward was a big reason for the Panthers’
turnaround this season. Fortes led KIPP to an
11-8 record while averaging a double-double
of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Not only was she
effective on the glass, but on the defensive end,
there were no easy baskets as she recorded four
blocks a game.
The senior leader will be missed in the KIPP
community, and will be remembered as a key
player in the turnaround of the program.
Logan Lomasney
Peabody
(Senior)
What a career it was for the three-time
Northeastern Conference Most Valuable Player.
Lomasney had a season to remember, scoring
20.3 points per game and grabbing more than
nine rebounds per contest. The forward scored in
double-digits in all but two games this winter.
Lomasney became the seventh girl in Peabody
High School history to score more than 1,000
points, finishing her illustrious basketball career
with 1,101 points.
Lynn Classical's Lauren Wilson
Cecilia Kay
Bishop Fenwick
(Senior)
When you’re thinking about the top players in
the state of Massachusetts, Kay’s name is right
atop the list.
The do-it-all captain led her team in scoring
with 21.4 points per game while grabbing 11.4
boards, 1.9 steals and 1.7 blocks per game.
She was the Catholic Central League’s MVP
and ended her career hoisting the Comcast
Tournament trophy. Kay will continue her
basketball career at American University.
Lauren WIlson
Lynn Classical
(Senior)
Wilson led the Rams in scoring, but did most
of her damage in the “biggest moments and at
the end of the year,” according to head coach
Tom Sawyer.
The multi-sport star (soccer) scored 19 points
in a Greater Boston League-clinching win
against Medford, 16 of them in the second half
when Classical was trailing. Then, in the opening
round of the state tournament, Wilson showed
that the size of the stage doesn’t matter to her,
scoring 17 points at Notre Dame Academy.
Selections by The Item staff were based on coaches' recommendations, individual accomplishments, and overall impact on
team success.
ESSEX MEDIA GROUP 3
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Jaeleigh Perry
Lynn English
(Senior)
Perry did a bit of everything for the Lynn
English Bulldogs. She showed her versatility
on the offensive end, posting up defenders
while also letting it fly from range – just
look at her three 3-pointers against Revere.
Perrywas always ready to take on fellow
Lynn rivals, as she scored 18 points against
KIPP and 20 points against Classical. Last,
but certainly not least, she was a leader on
the court, always communicating and lifting
her team's spirit.
Olivia Quagrello
Swampscott
(Freshman)
Quagrello wasted no time adjusting to
the high school basketball scene, sporting
205 total points with a team-leading 10.3
per contest. That’s not all, as she registered
77 steals this winter and was second on the
Big Blue in both rebounds (4 per game) and
assists (3).
In a game against Salem, Quagrello
showed the varsity world that she’s here to
stay, scoring 30 points and swiping 10 steals
against the Witches.
Engelyz Bingham
Lynn Tech
(Junior)
A big-time player who came with big-time
numbers. For the Tigers, who reached the
Division 4 state tournament and won a game
against Upper Cape Cod RVT, Bingham sported
15.8 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and
three steals per game.
With Bingham leading the way, Tech finished
the regular season with a 13-6 record. The
Tigers’ season came to an end against top-ranked
Cathedral, but she still netted 15 points alongside
three boards.
Kathryn Pyne
Marblehead
(Senior)
On the topic of great basketball leaders, you
could say Pyne is right atop the list. The senior
captain was the floor general for the Magicians,
who finished the regular season with a 14-8
record. Pyne was also one of the more unselfish
players in the area, and had a willingness to pass
up a good shot for a great one.
Throughout the season, coach Paul Moran
praised Pyne for her leadership skills and called
her a “key player” within the program. Whether
it was offensively or defensively, Pyne made an
impact most nights.
Bella Owumi
St. Mary’s
(Freshman)
What more is there to say about Owumi?
After winning a state championship as an 8th
grader, the do-it-all Spartan wasn’t satisfied
as a freshman. The Catholic Central All-Star
averaged 14.4 points per game, 10.2 rebounds,
and 4.2 steals.
Owumi – whose record as a starter is 70-
11 – has received several scholarship offers,
including from Providence, Boston College,
Harvard, UPenn, Stonehill, Rhode Island, and
Northeastern.
Peyton DiBiasio
Saugus
(Sophomore)
The super sophomore had another strong year,
this time, under a new head coach in Joseph
Lowe. After taking the Northeastern Conference
by storm as a freshman, lots of attention was on
DiBiasio, but she still submitted 19 points per
game alongside six rebounds and four assists.
She’s a two-time all-Northeastern Conference
player, and is already closing in on 1,000 points
at the midpoint of her high school career.
DiBiasio helped lead the Sachems to a 14-8
record and 58-12 state tournament victory
against North High, a game in which she scored
14 points.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Thad Broughton - Peabody - Coach of the Year
A coach with a vision – there’s not much better than that. With year 13 in the books for Broughton, his Tanners are right where they want to be.
Picking the momentum back up from last season – one in which Peabody picked up its first state tournament win in 19 years – the Tanners
continued their roll this winter with a 19-3 record.
Despite a lopsided loss against powerhouse Xaverian in the Division 1 Sweet 16, Broughton and his players walked off the hardwood with
their heads held high after another strong season.
JJ Martinez
St. Mary’s
(Sophomore)
Head coach David Brown called Martinez one of the best
players to ever represent St. Mary’s, and for good reason.
The Spartan averaged 19.7 points alongside eight rebounds,
five assists, three steals, and two blocks per game.
From spot-up threes to strong finishes around the basket,
Martinez was a threat from anywhere on the court. With the
two-way forward leading the way, his Spartans finished with
a 15-8 record and top-10 seed in Division 3.
Kyle Kemembin
Lynn English
(Senior)
Lynn English's Kyle Kemembin
Against some of the top competition in Division 1, this
Bulldog was right in the middle of it. Kemembin averaged
17 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals this season to go
with his strong presence on the defensive end.
Just look at English’s 68-65 win against Cambridge
Rindge & Latin, which was a top-15 program in the state
when it faced the Bulldogs. Not only did Kemembin steal
the show with 27 points, but he stole the game, too, with a
winning basket at the rim.
Ederick Gonzalez
Lynn Tech
(Senior)
A freight train barreling down the Lynn Tech
gymnasium, Gonzalez was a force to be reckoned
with, earning him Player of the Year honors in the
Commonwealth Athletic Conference.
His strong play didn’t slow down in the postseason,
either. For Tech, which won two games in Division 4,
Gonzalez scored 18 points alongside 20 rebounds in a
win against Georgetown. He finished off his career with a
Vocational Championship and 20-win season.

ESSEX MEDIA GROUP 5
BOYS BASKETBALL
Anthony Forte
Peabody
(Senior)
What a way to go out. After four seasons on
the varsity team, Forte reached the 1,000-point
threshold this season and extended it to 1,223 by his
career’s end.
The future Endicott Gull averaged 19 points,
three assists, and three rebounds this winter, and
scored 30 or more points three times. Forte was just
the seventh player in program history to reach 1,000
points, according to coach Thad Broughton.
Marvin Avery Jr.
Lynn Classical
(Sophomore)
Just a sophomore, Avery snagged Player of the
Year honors in the Greater Boston League this
season. The Ram recorded 16 points, five assists,
and three rebounds per game, solidifying his status
as one of Lynn’s top basketball players.
With Avery serving as Classical’s primary ballhandler
and leading scorer, his team finished with 11
wins and a trip to the Division 3 state tournament.
Raphel Laurent
Peabody
(Senior)
Lynn Tech's Ederick Gonzalez
Eighteen regular season wins don’t just fall into
your lap. Laurent represented Peabody well this
winter, sporting averages of 22 points, six rebounds,
and three assists.
He was an explosive scorer, too. Laurent tallied
30 or more points twice, and 41 in a win against
Triton. He wrapped up his four-year varsity career
with a state tournament win against Belmont, and will
continue to play basketball in college (undecided).
BOYS BASKETBALL
Nick Lemmond
Marblehead
(Senior)
The Northeastern Conference Player of the Year
put on a show as a senior, igniting his Magicians to a
14-win season and state tournament victory against
a favored Melrose side.
Speaking of Melrose, Lemmond stepped it up
when his team needed him most. He netted 30
points, and hovered around the 20-point mark
throughout the regular season. He also made the
IAABO Board 130 All-Tournament team.
Trosky Peña
KIPP
(Junior)
After a slow start from KIPP, the Panthers clawed
their way back to an 11-win season. As for how,
look no further than their primary ball-handler who
controlled the pace of the action nearly every night.
Peña registered 17 points, four assists, and
two steals this season, earning him a spot on the
Commonwealth Athletic Conference All-Star team.
“That’s just Trosky,” said coach Moody Bey.
Bishop Fenwick's James Meklis of Lynn
Connor Chiarello
Swampscott
(Sophomore)
Talk about a leap. Despite a strong
freshman campaign from Chiarello,
he stepped it up big-time in year two.
The point guard “made significant
contributions,” according to coach Jason
Knowles, recording 18 points per game and
playing in all 21 of them.
“Standout performances include three
games in which he scored more than 30 points,”
Knowles said. “Moreover, Connor demonstrated his
versatility by leading the team in assists (4), steals
(3.4), and rebounds (4.3).”
James Meklis
Bishop Fenwick
(Senior)
Not only did he sport 17 points per game, but Meklis was the
ultimate leader, according to coach Kevin Moran. The guard
was Fenwick’s captain during his junior and senior seasons.
An exceptional shooter, the Lynn native and two-time
Catholic Central All-Star showed out against St. Mary’s on
home hardwood, sporting 20 points and four rebounds, despite
the loss.
“James personifies what a student-athlete should be,”
Moran said. “He continuously displays qualities such as
class, sportsmanship, leadership, dedication, commitment,
responsibility, and dependability.”
GIRLS HOCKEY
Frank Pagliuca - St. Mary’s - Coach of the Year
Seeking his first state title since 2013, coach Frank Pagliuca of St. Mary’s did just that as his Spartans won the
Division 1 state championship, 5-4, over Notre Dame (Hingham) at TD Garden.
From a short bench to a key player (Kasey Litwin) missing the postseason due to injury, Pagliuca blended dynamic
freshmen, experienced upperclassmen, and strong goaltending into a state title-winning program once again.
St. Mary’s finished with five state tournament wins (Weymouth, Boston Latin, Shrewsbury, Archbishop Williams,
Notre Dame), a 23-3-1 record, and, of course, a state title to bring back to Lynn.
Bella Freitas
St. Mary’s
(Freshman)
Blink, and you might miss her. From her
lightning-fast speed to wicked wrist shot,
Freitas scored 46 goals in her debut high school
campaign. She also tallied goals in every state
tournament game – including two in St. Mary’s
title win against Notre Dame (Hingham).
Freitas also defined the word ‘clutch’
this postseason. She scored in overtime
against Archbishop Williams, a third-period
backhander to eliminate Shrewsbury, and
dished out an assist to Alyssa Norden in
overtime of the state championship.
Scarlet Lee
Marblehead
(Freshman)
This winter was Lee’s first on Marblehead’s
girls hockey team, but you wouldn’t have
known it by looking at the numbers. Lee
was everywhere across the crease, playing a
key role in a rebuild season for the Headers.
Lee made 25 saves against Bishop Fenwick,
31 against Winthrop, and another 34 against
Pope Francis – just to name a few.
Marblehead's Scarlet Lee
Ava Buckley
PLNR
(Junior)
What didn’t Ava Buckley
accomplish her junior year?
Skating for the Peabody-
Lynnfield-North Reading co-op
program, Buckley was named
Northeastern Hockey League Player of
the Year with 17 goals and 23 assists (40
points).
Not a bad career, either. With one year
remaining, Buckley has already submitted 26
goals, 42 assists, and is just the second player
in program history to reach 40 points in a
single season.
Alyse Mutti
PLNR
(Junior)
Coach Michelle Roach – and a handful of
opposing coaches – have called Mutti one of the
state’s top goalies, and for good reason. This winter,
the netminder was named a Northeastern Hockey
League All-Conference All-Star.
Between the pipes, Mutti sported a 1.09 GAA
(goals against average) and eight shutouts. For her
career, she has 20 career shutouts, a 45-12 overall
record, 1.15 GAA, and holds program records for
shutouts and wins.
Gianna Tringale
St. Mary’s
(Senior)
One of the state’s top goaltenders, and one of the few to win
a state title this winter, Tringale was the driving force behind an
unforgettable postseason for St. Mary’s. She allowed just five goals
through the Spartans’ first four state tournament games.
She may have saved her best for last, however. In a state
championship win against Notre Dame (Hingham), Tringale made
41 saves – 14 of them coming across three overtime periods.
“I really believe that she won us that game,” said coach Frank
Pagliuca. “She hadn’t started a varsity game until her senior year, so
think about how far she’s come.”
Ella Tucker
Bishop Fenwick
(Junior)
Despite no postseason run for the Lady Crusaders,
Tucker more than made up for the lost time. She made
60 saves in a game against Malden Catholic and flirted
with the 500-save mark this winter.
One of the top goalies on the North Shore, Tucker
recorded wins against Hopkinton, Marblehead, East
Bridgewater, and Arlington Catholic, among other
strong performances.
ITEM ALL-STARS WINTER 2023-24
ESSEX MEDIA GROUP 9
BOYS HOCKEY
Mark Marfione - Marblehead - Coach of the Year
In just his second season helming Marblehead’s boys hockey program, the Headers skated
to the Division 3 state championship game and defeated top-ranked Nauset, 1-0, at TD Garden.
The team won five state tournament games, finished with a 17-9-1 record, and, perhaps
most importantly, never cowered after beginning the season 0-6 (then 2-8).
With Marfione blending talent and instilling belief, his Headers returned home with some
hardware – Marblehead’s first state championship since 2011.
Cam McGonagle
St. Mary’s
(Junior)
For the 11-11-1 Spartans, McGonagle was their
leading scorer and a Catholic Central League All-Star.
He scored six goals to go with 17 assists, finishing his
junior campaign with 23 points and a +17 plus-minus.
Even in St. Mary’s season-ending loss to Franklin,
McGonagle dished out an assist and was active in all
three zones. Better yet, he’s just a junior, so look for
the playmaker to respond big his senior year.
Jarret Scoppettuolo
Lynnfield
(Senior)
Scoppettuolo was the secret formula in Lynnfield’s
11-10-1 season, helping advance the Pioneers to the
Division 3 Sweet 16 with a win against Norton.
The do-it-all iceman scored six goals and dished
out 25 assists, “and those don’t tell the whole story,”
according to coach Jon Gardner.
“Jarret is 100 percent our most consistent player,”
Gardner added. “He’s all over the ice. He has a lot of
helpers and, yet, does things that don’t show up on
the scoresheet. He’s just a pain to play against and has
been phenomenal.”
Anthony Sasso
Bishop Fenwick
(Senior)
Sasso’s Crusaders were ineligible for the MIAA
state tournament due to Bishop Fenwick’s all-sport
ban, but that didn’t stop Sasso from putting on a show
this winter.
The senior forward totaled 22 points (8 goals, 14
assists) and did a little bit of everything for Fenwick.
Just look at his December game against Chelmsford,
in which the lefty had a goal and two assists in a 4-2
win.
Kyle Hart
Marblehead
(Junior)
Including the lone assist in Marblehead’s 1-0
state title win against top-ranked Nauset, Hart was
instrumental in, frankly, a magical Headers’ run. With
his goal-scoring and playmaking abilities, Hart helped
lead his team to its first title since 2011 and five state
tournament wins.
The Header finished his junior campaign with
18 goals and more than 30 assists. With one more
year remaining, look for Hart to be back in the state
tournament mix come next winter.
Christian Rosa
St. John’s Prep
(Senior)
Talk about a playmaker. Christian Rosa of St.
John’s Prep recorded 15 goals and 17 assists in the
regular season, one in which the Eagles sported a
17-3 record after a few early-season losses. And, Prep
skated to a 3-2 win over Winchester in the Division 1
title game.
Jake Vana
St. John’s Prep
(Senior)
What a season it was for the multi-sport star, who
dished out two assists in St. John’s Prep’s 3-2 win
against Winchester to capture the Division 1 state title.
Vana assisted both of Johnny Tighe’s goals in the final
period, including the game-winner at the buzzer.
The Eagle wrapped up his final season on the ice
with 17 goals and 15 assists in the regular season.
Come the state tournament, Vana led the way across
Prep’s five-game dominance.
10 ESSEX MEDIA GROUP ITEM ALL-STARS WINTER 2023-24
WRESTLING
Manny Costa - St. John’s Prep - Coach of the Year
What a way for, arguably, the greatest wrestling coach in Massachusetts high school history to go out after 34 years. Before his
retirement, Costa’s Eagles finished the winter with a 33-0 record.
His program also won the Division 1 Dual Meet and North Sectionals, placed second in the Division 1 State Tournament, third in
All-States, and seventh in New Englands. The Eagles were also named champions of the Marshfield Holiday and Woburn tournaments.
Mason Hinshaw
Marblehead-Swampscott
(Junior)
The ever-improving Hinshaw improved last season's
32-12 record to 41-9 this winter. A junior captain who
wrestled at 142 pounds, he won the Gionet Memorial,
finished second at the Pentucket Holiday Tournament, and
third in Division 2 States, among other achievements.
Liam O’Brien
Marblehead-Swampscott
(Sophomore)
What didn’t O’Brien accomplish for Marblehead-
Swampscott? The 120-pound sophomore – and New
England qualifier – finished the season with a 41-
14 record, placed second in the Division 2 North
Sectionals, and seventh at All-States. He was also a
Coaches Award Winner and named champion of the
Dan Gionet Memorial.
Lynnfield-North
Reading's James Fodera
Jayden D’Ambrosio
St. John’s Prep
(Senior)
D’Ambrosio claimed his rank as one of the top wrestlers
in New England this winter with a clean record of 61-0.
In a stcked Division I North region, D’Ambrosio was
named a North Sectional champion, State champion,
All-State champion, and New England champion.
He also claimed the Marshfield Holiday and Woburn
championships.
Luke Connolly
Bishop Fenwick
(Senior)
It was a perfect season for Connolly in dual
meets, going an impressive 24-0 with all 24
wins coming via pin. A strong wrestler in every
phase, Connolly lost just two matches all year,
going 42-2. Across his career, the Crusader
went 72-0 in dual meets and 131-12 overall.
Sam LoRusso
Saugus-Peabody
(Senior)
James Fodera
Lynnfield-North Reading
(Junior)
When it comes to the big stage, Fodera rarely
falters. Winning three tournaments this winter at
Wakefield, Pentucket, and Cohasset tournaments,
when Fodera got to the final match, he went up
another level to secure the crowns.
Fodera recorded 125 points and an impressive
26-9 tournament record (49-11 overall) for a
career record of 99-32. The two-time Iron Man
Award winner was a Cape Ann League All-Star
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Nolan Raimo - Marblehead - Coach of the Year
With Raimo commanding the ship, Marblehead’s girls track and field team won the Northeastern Conference Open and saw its 4x400
relay team win the program’s first state relay championship in 20 years with a 1-point victory over Billerica in the MSTCA Division 3
state relays.
From boosting player morale to teaching technique as a former athlete, Raimo led the Lady Magicians to a winter they’ll never forget.
Le'Daisha Williams
Marblehead
It’s hard to find something that Williams didn’t
accomplish this winter. Her best times included 41.44
in the 300m, 7.59 in the 55m, 1:46.03 in the 4x200, and
4:06.73 in the 4x400.
Williams placed second in the 300m during the Division
3 State Championship, anchored the 4x200 team at the
Meet of Champions, and won the Coaches Invitational in
the 4x400. Her 300m and 4x200 performances gave her
of 16-3 in the long jump, placed third in the Catholic
Central League Championship, and 18th in the Division 4
Championship.
She also captured a personal record in the 55m dash
and finished fourth in the CCL Championship, but that’s
not all. Amin anchored the 4x200 team and ran on a record
4x400 team that placed 13th at the state championship.
Jireilis De Jesus
Lynn Tech
(Junior)
De Jesus was a force to be reckoned with for Lynn
Tech this winter. She was undefeated in the 300m within
the Commonwealth Athletic Conference, and undefeated
in the 55 high hurdles within the conference. Her average
in the high jump was 5-1, and she finished second in the
conference in MVP voting.
BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
Fernando Braz - Peabody - Coach of the Year
It was quite the season for Peabody’s boys track and field team, once
again helmed by legendary Massachusetts coach Fernando Braz.
The Tanners were second overall in the Division 2 State Relays, fourth
in Division 2 States, and undefeated (7-0) in the Northeastern Conference
Dunn Division, giving Peabody another conference championship.
Peabody also saw 11 of its athletes qualify for Scholastic Indoor
Nationals, and made it 15 consecutive years on top of the NEC.
Lynnfield's Eli Mendese
Alex Jackson
Peabody
(Junior)
What more is there to say about Jackson? From
broken records to eye-catching numbers, this Tanner
did it all. Jackson was Peabody’s Most Valuable
Player with a shot put record of 60-06 and weight
throw of 67-11.5.
He was undefeated in the shot put against
all Massachusetts competitors, placed third in
the MSTCA Holiday Challenge, and first in the
Dartmouth Invitational, Northeast Invitational,
Coaches Invitational, and Division 2 Relays.
Daniel Padley
St. John’s Prep
(Junior)
The Junior Eagle ran with purpose this winter,
sporting some of St. John’s Prep’s top performances.
At the Catholic Central Championship, Padley
went home with the Most Outstanding Runner
award – and for good reason. The Danvers native
sported three first-place finishes in the mile (4:25),
1K (2:33), and 4×800 relay (1:56.7)
Thomas Hooks
St. Mary’s
(Senior)
What a winter for Hooks, in just his first year
on the indoor track team and second overall in the
sport. The Spartan was named a Catholic Central
League All-Star and his 6-3 high jump was the
second highest in St. Mary’s history.
Conference champion Hooks was undefeated in
the event during the dual meet season. On top of
that, he was named the conference’s Outstanding
Field Athlete and placed second in the Division 4
State Championship.
Eli Mendese
Lynnfield
(Junior)
Talk about a record-breaker and point-scorer.
Lynnfield MVP and Cape Ann League All-Star
Mendese got the job done for the Pioneers – in more
ways than one.
He placed first in the CAL high jump with a 6’
(school record), third in the long jump with a 20-6
(school record), and broke Lynnfield’s pentathlon
record with 2,591 points.
Mendese was undefeated in the CAL Baker
Division in long jump (regular season), and
collected 70.83 points throughout the season
alongside five broken records.
Alex Hersey
Marblehead
(Senior)
Hersey was a man on a mission in
Marblehead, breaking a school record in
the long jump with a 21-5.75 (Northeastern
Conference championship; meet record). He
also placed second in the conference with
a 7.78 in the 55mh, and fifth at the state
pentathlon (3,199 points).

Susan Guertin - Marblehead - Coach of the Year
What a season it was for Guertin’s Magicians, who dominated the Northeastern Conference from beginning to end this winter.
Marblehead was the conference’s regular season and meet champion, finished 7-0, and saw three student-athletes receive All-Star
nods (Gary Podstrelov, Madeleine Auerbach, Simon Quicken).
“I’m the luckiest woman alive,” Guertin said. “I love to see kids make progress in the water.”
Swimmer of the Year in the
city, four-year team MVP, and
four-year All-Star.
“A true team leader and
extremely versatile,” said coach
Denise Silva. “She’s the only
person to win both individual
events in the Lynn City
Championships.”
Sarah Shann
Bishop Fenwick
(Freshman)
A first-year diver, Shann came
in first place at the Catholic
both sectionals and states. In a
February meet, Shann posted a
first-place finish in 1m diving
with 234.10 points, and was part
ESSEX MEDIA GROUP 15
BOYS SWIMMING AND DIVING
Jeff Fiore - St. John’s Prep - Coach of the Year
St. John’s Prep returned to the top this winter, largely due to what head coach Jeff Fiore built with his student-athletes. The
Eagles – who earned points in three of the final four events – reclaimed their top spot in Division 1 with a 239-212 victory
against MIT in the swim championships.
Better yet, the Eagles participated with just six swimmers and two divers. But, the program had a vision, then executed en
route to Prep’s 16th championship in 18 seasons.
Evan Chan
Lynnfield
(Senior)
Your Cape Ann League Swimmer of the
Year, and for good reason. Not only did Chan
represent Lynnfield with class, according to
coach Jeff Boyd, but the All-Star sported a
23.33 in the 50 free and 51.46 in the 100 free.
Matthew Church
St. John’s Prep
(Junior)
Church put on a show in the pool this winter,
earning second place in both the 200 and 500 free at
states. The day St. John’s Prep captured yet another
championship, Church was its top individual finisher
with 34 points.
Peabody-Essex Tech's Theo Roan
Eamonn McHale
Lynn English
(Senior)
This Bulldog was undefeated in the 100
breaststroke, giving him a Greater Boston League
Championship and city championship (Lynn) in
the event. McHale’s final personal record for the
breaststroke was 1:11.84.
Hunter Flores
Lynn Tech
(8th grade)
As an 8th grade swimmer, Flores was Tech’s highest pointscorer
and “top boys swimmer,” as said by coach John Hogan. He
especially impressed in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly.
“A very strong relay swimmer and solid in all meets this year,”
Hogan said. “He was a big part of Lynn Tech winning the city
championships.”
Theo Roan
Peabody-Essex Tech
(Senior)
What a winter it was for Roan, who placed second
in the Northeastern Conference Championship and
had a handful of first-place finishes throughout the
season. The Peabody-Essex veteran qualified for both
sectionals (10th place) and states (13th).
