The bride may also recite a similar du`\' (this is not specifically in the<br />
Sunnah but, going by the general rule <strong>of</strong> the applicability <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Prophet’s teachings to both men and women, it is good nonetheless):<br />
‘ALLHUMMA ‘INN• ‘AS’ALUKA KHAYRAHp<br />
WA KHAYRA M JABALTAH¤ `ALAYHI<br />
WA ‘A`¤DHU BIKA MIN SHARRIH•<br />
WA SHARRI M JABALTAH¤ `ALAYH.<br />
O All\h, I ask You for the good <strong>of</strong> him<br />
and the goodness which You have created him upon;<br />
And I seek protection in You from the evil <strong>of</strong> him<br />
and whatever evil You have created him upon.<br />
The benefits <strong>of</strong> this are that All\h I will remove evil from the spouses<br />
and prevent evil from befalling them, and He will bless the household.<br />
Starting a conversation is always easier than anticipated. Appearing<br />
happy and smiling affectionately through this nervous ordeal helps<br />
each other and benefits the relationship. The conversation should be<br />
initiated by asking about each other and listening appreciatively and<br />
attentively. And without trying too hard (or being obscene) a few jokes<br />
can be cracked to lighten the atmosphere. Thereafter engage in<br />
speaking about All\h I and His mercy. After which the purpose<br />
behind the Nik\# can be explained. Upon this the couple should<br />
make an agreement with each other to always obey All\h I and be<br />
faithful and loyal to each other.<br />
