Football Club is staging a<br />
comeback.<br />
After facing various difficulties<br />
dating back to 2012, the club has<br />
elected a new executive to go with<br />
its new image. New executive<br />

Bosch said proactive measures<br />
were being planned to ensure the<br />
club would regain its rightful place<br />
in rugby in the area. Play was taking<br />
place on a weekly basis, with ties<br />
established with clubs in Tarkastad,<br />
Fort Beaufort and Aliwal North.<br />

Fundraising was taking place,<br />
with a boerie day and a curry and<br />
rice evening well supported<br />
recently. A steak evening will be<br />
hosted next month and a car wash<br />
in August.<br />
Sponsorships were raised with a<br />
set of jerseys and shorts from DIY<br />
Tombstones and shorts from Pick<br />
and Pay Family Store. Two further<br />
sponsorships were also looking<br />
promising, he said.<br />
A donation of first aid sports<br />
packages had been received from<br />
supporters with the club grateful for<br />
the support of the sponsors.<br />
“<strong>The</strong> club constitution has been<br />
updated and adjusted to comply<br />
with those of its immediate senior<br />
bodies – Border Rugby and the<br />
Queenstown Rugby sub-union,” he<br />
said.<br />
“Performance on and off the field<br />
has already laid the foundation for a<br />
brand of rugby that is dynamic, new<br />
and exciting,” he said.<br />
Challenges being experienced<br />
include a lack of training facilities,<br />
transport of players and the impact<br />
of joblessness on those wanting to<br />
par ticipate.<br />
<strong>The</strong> club was hoping to grow its<br />
player base to ensure that it<br />
reached the heights of success in<br />
the future.<br />

with an inaugural derby<br />
day tournament in<br />

Academy teams<br />

two six-a-side teams<br />
consisting of under-7,<br />
U8 and U9 players, one<br />
from Stutterheim and<br />
one from Komani.<br />
<strong>The</strong> remaining four<br />
teams – two from<br />
Stutterheim, one from<br />
Komani and one from<br />
Gonubie – consisted of<br />
boys up to the U13 age<br />
group and played in an<br />
11-a-side round robin<br />
tournament.<br />

(WSU) first team lost against<br />
KwaKomani 7-2 while Nkululekweni<br />
suffered a major loss against the<br />

Inkwenkwezi, currently second in<br />
the league, played against WSU’s<br />
second team and won 14-6. Mighty<br />
Angels took a beating from<br />
Sibabalwe’s first team 3-1, while the<br />
Fishers second team lost against<br />
Rama 5-6 and Sibabalwe’s second<br />
with Komani second<br />
after winning two of<br />
their three matches, and<br />
Gonubie and<br />
Stutterheim B third after<br />
each suffered two losses<br />
